Liu Celebrates Jewish Heritage, Honors Community Leaders

John Liu, Comptroller of the City of New York, welcomed several hundred representatives of the Jewish community to his annual Jewish Heritage celebration. The event, co sponsored by The Jewish Community Relations Council of New York, Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty, UJA Federation of New York and Agudath Israel, honored leaders who have aided and assisted those in need throughout the City.
Following greetings from Ido Aharoni, Israel’s Acting Consul General in New York, the Comptroller presented awards to Distinguished Honorees including Rabbi David Cohen, CEO of Chevra Hatzalah, Dr. Steven C. Goodman, CEO of the Samuel Field Y, Deborah Hes, Executive Director of the JCC of Washington Heights, Anna Rachmansky, President of the Shorefront YM-YWHA and Alexander Rappaport, founder of the Masbia Soup Kitchen in Boro Park. Comptroller Liu recognized the work of Judy Horowitz and Rabbi Michael Miller of the JCRC-NY in helping to create the well attended event.
