Jewish Leaders to UN: Remove Richard Falk
by Shmuel Bruck
United Nations representative Richard Falk has come under heavy criticism, once again being accused of anti-Semitic behavior. The Anti-Defamation League called on the UN yesterday to condemn Falk for posting a cartoon on his blog that features a vicious dog, labeled “USA” and wearing a Jewish skullcap, urinating on a representation of lady justice while feasting on a pile of blood and bones.
Further criticism of Falk, a Princeton professor and Special Rapporteur for Human Rights in the Palestinian Territories, was expressed when Richard B. Stone and Malcolm Hoenlein of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations called on UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to remove Falk, whose latest blog posting, they say, is blatantly anti-Semitic.
In a statement released this morning, the conference representatives wrote that “this latest action compounds the long existing problem of Mr. Falk’s blatant biases and repugnant behavior. His history of hateful provocations, including the spread of 9/11 conspiracy theories blaming the United States for self-inflicted terrorism, and comparison of Israelis to Nazis are evidence that he cannot fulfill his responsibilities consistent with the UN’s mission and standards. Falk’s continued presence as UN’s special rapporteur suggests that the UN not only tolerates but may even support his outrageous actions.”
