Why a Jewish Artist Recreated the Charity Box

Being Jewish and an artist for me is following a family tradition that is now somehow part of Art History. To be the son of an incredibly talented artist and a great humanitarian is a path that took years to develop, slowly and respectfully. My father created some of the most extraordinary Judaic art, pieces that always allied beauty and spirituality to the highest form. A few months ago I was asked by  a dear friend of mine in Miami [...]

    Jews in Super Bowl History

With less than a minute to play in the biggest football game of his life, Jewish punter Josh Miller wanted a ham sandwich. “I was hungry,” he said in an interview with JointMedia News Service, recalling one of his many thoughts from Super Bowl XXXIX, when his New England Patriots edged the Philadelphia Eagles, 24-21. Miller played an important role in the Patriots’ third NFL championship. With time running out, he booted the ball with enough backspin that it was downed at the Eagles’ [...]

Jewish Philathropists Face Off In Super Bowl

When the New York Giants and New England Patriots take the field for Sunday’s Super Bowl, most of the country will focus on the athletes wearing the jerseys. Bob’s brother, Larry, was the father [...]

You teach them that the world is a pie of fixed size, and that if they want more they must see that others have less or perhaps nothing at all. This is a fearful world of endless and often violent competition and retribution; a world of [...]

Top Israeli Soccer Team Comes From Unlikely Place in Kiryat Shmona

NY Times – KIRYAT SHMONA – This city is one of Israel’s smallest, a hardscrabble place with a population of 23,000 that is less than two miles from the Lebanese border and through the decades has repeatedly found itself caught in the crossfire of Arab-Israeli strife. In 1974, Kiryat Shmona was the scene of a terrorist attack in which 18 Israelis, many of them children, were killed. Rockets have clobbered the town during cross-border fighting. Underground shelters are as familiar [...]

25 Years of Shlock Rock – Jewish Rock n’ Roll

JTA – Before the Maccabeats created a sensation on YouTube with their Chanukah song, and before the scores of individuals recorded Jewish parodies on video, and before Jewish outreach organizations used popular music to connect with unaffiliated Jews, there was Lenny Solomon and Shlock Rock. For 25 years the Jewish rock band has been teaching Jewish ideas through music using song parodies, original music in English and Hebrew, and children’s songs. Read full story.
