The United Nations annual report on humanitarian conditions in Gaza was submitted to the Security Council today.

The report says, “Israeli authorities continued to impose a blockade on Gaza, amounting to collective punishment of the population and affecting every aspect of life in the Gaza Strip,” and “serious protection and human rights issues, limited access to essential services and entrenched levels of food insecurity continue to characterize the day-to-day lives of many Palestinians.”

According to the IDF, during the first week of this year, “1,083 truckloads (30,227 tons) were unloaded at the Gaza crossings.”  That includes 291 trucks worth of food, 366 of construction materials, and 253 of “essential humanitarian supplies”.

In a separate UN posting on Wednesday, the international governing body wrote “Israel imposed the blockade on Gaza for what it called security reasons after Hamas, which does not recognize Israel’s right to exist, ousted the Fatah movement in the Strip in 2007.”
