Nuclear Iran, Savage Syria — Israel Still Demonized

Some random thoughts from last week’s media coverage and its relevance to the Jewish world & Public Relations:
- The world hasn’t come to a halt after the Syrian government massacred more than 200 of its own people in the last 48 hours for the crime of “uprising” against the government. It’s a relatively minor story – no names or faces – and, of course, the UN still hasn’t decided whether to formally demand that Assad step down. Could one imagine if such a thing happened in Israel? Would any other story be broadcast by major media outlets? It’s a clear double standard, and one wonders whether the Left stops to think that if the Syrians do this to their own people, what would they perpetrate against the State of Israel and the Jews given the chance?
- The Iran issue is slowly capturing more mainstream media attention – and whether Israel or the U.S. will strike the country. Regrettably, there’s very little education going on about the danger which Iran poses to the Western world. Israel and anyone concerned about the West, needs to very quickly start making more noise about the vast dangers a nuclear Iran poses to the world. In a fast-moving digital world, war without clarification isn’t enough. Publicity campaigns are a necessary component of war these days.
- A recent Al-Resalah story says, “Israel is losing the PR battle for various reasons: law and justice are on our side, there is an increasing awareness among Palestinians, the growth of alternative media like Facebook and Twitter, and, I believe, the effect of the International Solidarity Movement.” On the news station funded by Prince Alwaleed bin Talal of Saudi Arabia, the co-founder of the International Solidarity Movement and chair of the Free Gaza Movement, discussed how to “..counter Zionist propaganda globally.” More available here. He is so right – and it’s such a shame. There are so many of us who work at Public Relations firms eager to help and do more officially – and I pray that day will come soon.
