It’s shark season in Israel, and proof of it showed up with fishermen at the Acre Marina on Thursday, in the form of a 10 foot blue shark.

According to a report from Sanara.net, it was the largest shark caught by fishermen from the marina in 50 years.

The blue shark may have been in the area due to warmer waters emanating from two local power plants close to the sea water, according to Omri Gal, a spokesman for the country’s Parks and Nature Authority.  Gal said that sharks typically go into warmer waters where they have a more plentiful hunting ground of fish.

Ashraf Suway, the fisherman who brought the blue shark to the marina could not free the animal from his net, forcing him to bring it back to shore.  The head and tail has been taken to researchers at Tel Aviv University, but according to another Parks and Nature official, “there are a lot of sharks like this, just people don’t catch very many of them. This is not some sort of revolution though.”
