The extended trailer of Sacha Baron Cohen’s upcoming film “The Dictator” has just been released.
The film itself follows General Aladeen’s (a fictional charachter said to be based on former Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi) kidnapping in New York City. The movie will satirize political and social controversies happening around the world.
In a series of events leading up to the release of the film, which is scheduled for May 11th, Cohen has engaged in the unorthodox style of publicity that he has become synonymous with.
It began when Cohen was told he would not be allowed into the Academy Awards if he dressed as General Aladeen.
In character as Aladeen, Cohen then “threatened” the Academy Awards on national television for denying him access. This led to Cohen being admitted into the show as General Aladeen, but upon sprinkling the fake ashes of former North Korean leader Kim Jong-il, onto Ryan Seacrest on live television, Cohen was escorted from the red carpet.
The film is scheduled to be released May 11.
