New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has made no secret of his desire for tighter gun control laws in America.  In his own city however, it seems some of the wealthiest citizens, many of them Jewish, have a license to carry firearms.

Howard Stern, Ronald Lauder, Adam Rose, Ivan Seidenberg, and Martin Goodstein are just some of the wealthy New Yorkers lawfully permitted to carry a gun. The information was uncovered by the New York Post under the Freedom of Information Act.

Together, the names on the list have given tens of millions of dollars to civic, educational, and Jewish related organizations around the world.

Ronald Lauder, with an estimated net worth of $3.3 billion according to Forbes Magazine, is among those permitted to carry a loaded weapon around New York City, as is Adam Rose, who oversees development of the Stuyvesant Town apartment complex’s on Manhattan’s east side.

“There’s a sense that things can unravel — and where will you be then?” former police officer and current John Jay College professor Eugene O’Donnell told The Post.  “Ivan Seidenberg, he’s faced a lot of shareholder and union stuff. He’s the kind of guy who might need a gun. He’s got people coming at him with pitchforks.”

Seidenberg is a former CEO of Verizon and the company’s current chairman.

Just over 21,000 New York City residents hold a firearm license, in addition to roughly another 14,000 retired police officers.

“The work of [NYPD Commissioner] Ray Kelly and the NYPD has made New York City the safest big city in the country. Crime is down 35% over the past decade, and murders are at historic lows. But as our officers put their lives on the line to take guns off the street, they are getting no support from Washington – with terrible consequences,” Bloomberg wrote in early April, as part of his efforts to increase federal gun control regulations.
