Britain’s leading Zionist organization, which represents more than 120 other organizations, according to its website has reacted to the decision of the UK Foreign Office this morning to summon Israel’s Ambassador to the country after Israel announced planning for East Jerusalem development.

“We are calling on the Foreign Office to moderate their actions,” Stephen Hoffman, Campaigns Officer for the Zionist Federation wrote in an email to The Algemeiner, “which could damage the strong relationship between Israel and the UK and do nothing to further the peace process.”

Israel is “building in the West Bank to provide those who need homes with homes. This is not a move against peace, which Israel is still committed,” said an email from the Federation.

The Jewish State’s move follows last week’s United Nations vote that granted an upgrade in status to the Palestinian Authority, a unilateral step by the PA with violates previous agreements it has made with Israel.

“Israel is taking steps to send out a message that the Palestinian leadership cannot keep undermining the peace process through unacceptable unilateral actions. The Zionist Federation will continue to support Israel’s right to defend itself from the rejectionist steps of Palestinian’s leadership,” explained Zionist Federation Chairman, Paul Charney.

“The Zionist Federation and all its UK members support Israel’s right to stand up to those who do not recognize Israel’s right to live in peace and security and we hope the UK Government does too,” concluded the email.
