On the front page of this week’s Jewish Chronicle, tabloid legend Kelvin MacKenzie asks: ‘Is British journalism basically antisemitic?’

Kelvin, a former editor of The Sun who has holidayed in Israel several times and defended her on the BBC’s Question Time, says he is ‘puzzled’ by the hostile coverage Israel receives in the UK press.

He says: ‘Israel is pro-gay, pro-democracy, pro-women. It’s the most liberal establishment probably for 1,000 miles in any direction. You would have thought every journalist would embrace that thought process — but for some reason they don’t.’ He wonders whether anti-Israel coverage is ‘a form of proxy for antisemitism by journalists in the West’.

What do you think of what he said?

I recently co-wrote a book with Kelvin, called The Twitter History of the World. It imagines how 140 moments in the history of the world might have appeared had Twitter been around since day one.

The Ten Commandments

The birth of Prince Charles

George Galloway and Saddam Hussein

And a glimpse into the future…

The Twitter History of the World would make a good festive present. Speaking of which, I wish all my Jewish homies a very happy Hannukah!
