Shells fired from Syria landed in Israel in November.

Bullets and bombs continue to land in the Golan Heights, residents who live along the border with Syria say, but the state continues to ignore the fact.

A report from Israel’s Channel 10 quotes one resident as saying, “The Syrians shoot at us yet the state is silent.” The report also describes how one member of the community had their window blown out, and it quotes another resident who says, quite simply, “We want the quiet back.”

Earlier in the month Syrian mortar fire landed in the Golan Heights, eliciting a response from the IDF, which shot warning fire into the country. The IDF reported the incident to the United Nations, registering a complaint.

It was not the first time that a spillover from Syria’s civil war had reached the Israeli border. The Jerusalem Post wrote at the time that several Syrian shells and bullets had already landed on the Israeli side of the Golan ceasefire line.

On Thursday Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the Syrian issue during a speech at an Air Force graduation ceremony. “Everyone sees what is happening in Syria. The (Syrian) air force is bombing its own citizens and not refraining from using any means, including the use of weapons banned by international treaties,” he said, adding that Israel is”closely monitoring the developments in Syria and will do everything in its power to protect itself from this and any other threat.”
