Hawaii’s former Lieutenant Governor, Brian Schatz, was formally sworn into the Senate on Thursday, occupying the seat vacated by the death of Daniel Inouye last week. Schatz, who is Jewish, carried a Hebrew bible with him during the swearing-in ceremony. Schatz brings the total number of U.S. Senators who identify as Jewish to 11.
