If you’re keen on meeting Jewish people, and the best way you can think to do it is via Facebook, then Jwize is probably a good way to go. The app, which was launched in August, aims to provide a “platform which provides Jewish individuals with an interactive application to meet, share, and learn with peers around the world.”

In a recent interview with Israeli daily Maariv, co-founder Oz Bar Hama says that Jwize is one-of-a-kind.”We are the only social network designed specifically for Jews around the world,” he says.

In the past, attempts were made to establish a social network designed for Jews, but none of them survived. “We realized that most people are already on Facebook, so there was no interest in opening a new network platform that was independent. That’s why we built the network based on Facebook’s existing platform.”

The founders have no plans to advertise the app either. Instead, they are relying on the tight-knit Jewish community to spread the word.

Oz Bar Hama says that Birthright Israel participants are already using the app, as well as some Jewish schools to allow students to share lessons via video connection.

We’d tell you more but this video would probably do a better job:
