Satirical Host Jon Stewart Mocks Israeli Elections
by Zach Pontz
Israeli elections were unable to avoid the satirical wrath of Comedy Central’s Jon Stewart. The highly popular TV host poked fun at the celebrity endorsements Benjamin Netanyahu received from Chuck Norris (“What demographic is that targeting? Ardent Zionists who haven’t been to the movies in 10 years?”) and Donald Trump, as well as his relationship with U.S. President Barack Obama.
Stewart mocked media pundits who decried those who rejected Netanyahu’s settlemement policy as being anti-Israel, saying that if that were the case then half of Israel was in fact anti-Israel, as the center-left, which is thought to be more resistant to settlement in the West Bank, earned half the mandates in Israeli elections Tuesday. But as Algemeiner editor Dovid Efune points out, Yair Lapid, the new face of Israel’s center-left, isn’t exactly a dove when it comes to settlements either.
