An Arab man who was shot Thursday by a police officer near the West Bank settlement of Karnei Shomron reportedly tried to run the officer over after breaking through a checkpoint.
Magen David Adom emergency crews that were dispatched to the scene evacuated the Palestinian Arab, who was shot in the back but was reportedly not suffering life threatening injuries, to Kfar Saba’s Meir Medical Center. A Palestinian Arab who was traveling in the same vehicle was detained for questioning.
According to an initial investigation, a number of police officers ordered the man to stop and pull over to the side of the road, but the man accelerated and sped towards one of the officers, who managed to avoid the car. Another officer opened fire at the wheels of the car, but when that didn’t bring it to a halt the officers fired into the car. The incident took place on route 55, a road that has become a major target of Israelis by Palestinian Arab stone-throwers.
