Israel has stepped up military activity in and around Lebanon as can be witnessed by the recent detection of a submarine off the country’s southern coast, reports the Lebanese newspaper Ad-Diyar. According to the paper, French tracking technology detected the submarine, which has been making regular sweeps of the area. The French then informed the UN of the submarine’s presence.  According to the paper, Hezbollah has not yet been informed of the submarine’s presence.

Tensions are high along Israel’s  border with Lebanon. Bulgaria recently concluded that a terror attack on its soil last summer, in which 5 Israelis were killed, was orchestrated by Hezbollah. The Shiite terror organization has also been aiding Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in his battle against rebel forces, and Israel fears that the violence could spill over into the country.

On Sunday Hezbollah terror chief Hassan Nasrallah addressed the possibility of conflict with Israel, saying, “”I am warning the Israelis and their allies that the Resistance in Lebanon will not keep quiet over any violation that occurs on Lebanese territory.” This threat comes only weeks after Lebanon complained to the UN of the continued presence of Israeli fighter jets in their airspace only hours before an airstrike took out a weapons convoy headed from Syria to Lebanon.
