Jewish Soccer Star Given Trial Run by English Side Brentford
Finnish soccer star Roni Porokara, the first Jewish player on Finland’s national team since the first half of the twentieth century, has been given a trial by Brentford, a squad in England’s League One.
The 29-year-old had been playing in Israel with Hapoel Kiryat Shmona, but became a free agent last month. He has been training with Brentford in a bid to earn a deal with the squad and will feature for the development squad in Tuesday’s game with Bristol City.
Porokara has made 22 appearances for Finland, scoring five goals.
