Israeli President Shimon Peres addressed the European Parliament Tuesday, telling the governing body that Europe “divorced its past, it created a new Europe. You converted the divided Europe of the last thousand years, to the united Europe of today,” and  praised the continent because “the Europe of the Shoah is becoming a Europe supporting our renaissance.”In addition he called on the governing body to confront Iran and label Hezbollah a terrorist organization, saying “We Appeal to You – Call Terror – Terror.”

Peres became the  the first Israeli president to address the current arrangement of the EU. During the speech he lauded Israel’s success at building an affluent, functioning society out of the desert, saying, “The only natural resource we discovered is the human potential,”  adding that “Israel is an example where the people enriched the land more than the land enriched the people.”

Peres addressed the peace process, offering that once a new government is formed talks with the Palestinians will resume. “Peace for Israel is not just a strategic choice. It is a moral call which stems from the depth of our heritage,” he said, touting Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in the process, saying of him: “He condemns terror and is a real partner for peace.”

The president thanked Europe for being  “a major partner for peace and against terror,” and urged it to confront Iran.”The greatest danger to peace in the world is the present Iranian Regime. It became a dictatorship cloaked in a religious mantle,” he said, adding that “They are aiming to build a nuclear weapon and they deny it. A nuclear bomb in the hands of an irresponsible regime is an imminent danger to the world.”

Peres also warned that the world must not become complacent, that Iran says one thing and does another “Khamenei declared that religion prohibits the production and use of nuclear arms. Why then does he build missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads?”

But he also urged the EU to confront the country because of its human rights record. “A clear voice must be raised against the violation of human rights by the Iranian regime.

“A clear voice must be raised against a regime that hangs people without bringing them to court, that throws journalists into prison without trial.”

Finally Peres touched on the major issues concerning Israel to the north: Hezbollah and Syria. “Hezbollah, supported by Iran, is destroying Lebanon,” he told the audience. “Hezbollah is a terror organization. Not a political movement.

“Hezbollah is a state within a state. A private army apart from the national army. It sends soldiers to support the massacre of a bloody dictator in Syria. With no authorization of the government of which it is a member.”

The EU has set on its agenda the deliberation of Hezbollah’s status as a political organization. Thus far only the Netherlands has labeled it a terrorist group, with the UK distinguishing between its political and military wing, the latter of which it too has designated a terrror organization.

“Save Lebanon from terrorist madness,” he told Parliament.”The international community must designate Hezbollah as a terrorist organization.”

Peres concluded his speech with the issue of Syria and its civil war, a war that has left tens of thousands dead. He offered up an interim plan that could bring stability to the country. “The Arab League can and should form a provisional government in Syria to stop the massacre, to prevent Syria from falling to pieces. The United Nations should support an Arab force in blue helmets,” he said before concluding “As I look upon the future of the friendship which ties Israel to the European Union, I am filled with hope and determination. Hand in hand, we shall build a brighter tomorrow for tomorrow’s generation.”

No matter what Peres says, the fact is the emperor has no clothes and Abbas is no partner for peace. He is, and always will be, a hater of peace with Israel. Flattery is useless in making friends and eliminating enemies.

THE EMPEROR HAS NO CLOTHES, BUT PERES INSISTS THAT HE IS FULLY CLAD. WISHFUL THINKING WILL NOT CHANGE REALITY. ISRAEL HAS NO PARTNERS FOR PEACE, ONLY HATERS OF ISRAEL.

  • An activist has not truly lived until (s)he has organized a diverse bunch of youngsters from all over the world (thrown together from kibbutz ulpanim all over Israel). How many teenagers (the age at which you have all the answers without knowing any of the questions) are likely to survive a plenary session for a new voting bloc without killing each other in hot disagreements? Hoping to infuse fresh blood into Mapam, at a sponsored overnight Jerusalem outing, they asked me to chair the ‘Labor Zionist Renewal’ session after their parliamentarian bowed out.

Of the few politicians who paid their respects for the face time before the TV news cameras, the memorable ones were plain-speaking Jerusalem Mayor Teddy Kollek and the consummate politician Shimon Peres. Kollek was Kollek and Peres was Peres. Peres made no more sense then than he does today, but Socialism does that to its victims. Israel has no shortage of them. More frightening is his appearance and delivery then and now differ very little!

  • ” It is a moral call which stems from the depth of our heritage,” he said, touting Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in the process, saying of him: “He condemns terror and is a real partner for peace.”

What in the world is President Shimon Peres talking about? Did he just awaken from a 100 year sleep?

Unfortunately his optimism ignores European history. The EU emerged from the foundational antisemitism of European history. Added to that is the recent massive immigration into Europe of muslims who revere the sociopath Muhammad who decapitated 900 unarmed Jews at Quarayza. Denying reality does not deny the consequences of reality.

Tom Brady: Best Part of My Summer Was Watching Julian Edelman Lather Himself in Mud at Dead Sea in Israel

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady may have been bogged down this offseason over the NFL’s “Deflategate” scandal, but he found unusual recourse in images of teammate Julian Edelman lathering his body with potent Dead Sea mud in Israel. Indeed, as Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski became the latest celebrity voice to offer directions on the Israeli-developed navigational app Waze, and wide receiver Matthew Slater happily got married, Brady has been facing legal issues after NFL commissioner Roger Goodell reaffirmed a four-game suspension for Brady as part of a ball-deflating scandal […]

Jewish former CNN host Larry King asked a Saudi Arabian fan if taking pictures with Jews is allowed in his country, before agreeing to pose for a photo with the man, The New York Times reported on Wednesday. The world-famous interviewer was leaving the Ritz Carlton hotel in Washington, D.C. with a New York Times reporter when a “dark-skinned man” approached and asked to take a picture with him, according to the publication. Whereupon, King asked the fan where he was from. When the man said Saudi […]

British-Jewish business tycoon Lord Alan Sugar joked on Wednesday that London synagogues will likely be empty during Yom Kippur with congregants fleeing to watch the match-up of two leading English soccer teams known for having hordes of Jewish fans. “Spurs V Arsenal cup game drawn on most important Jewish festival,” Lord Sugar pointed out on Twitter. “Both teams have loads of Jewish fans. Conclusion Synagogues will be empty.” North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal FC will go head-to-head in the Capital One Cup third-round […]

Jewish Men Pass Jimmy Kimmel Social Experiment, Rescuing ‘Spongebob’ in Distress (VIDEO)

Two Jewish men were the only unwitting participants in a social experiment conducted by Jimmy Kimmel, for his popular TV show. As part of a candid-camera-like sketch featured Monday night on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the host devised different street scenes to observe human behavior — in particular, to see how long it would take people walking down California’s bustling Hollywood Boulevard to notice and interact with others in distress. One scene involved a man in a Spongebob Squarepants costume who had “fallen down” on the sidewalk and needed help […]

International Jewish Organization Blasts Israeli-Born Star Natalie Portman for Comments on Holocaust Education

A major Jewish organization rebuked actress Natalie Portman on Monday for saying in a recent interview that Jews put too much emphasis on teaching about the Holocaust relative to other genocides. The Israeli-born movie star told the U.K.’s Independent that the Jewish community needs to examine how much focus it puts on Holocaust education over other issues. She said she was shocked when she learned that a genocide was taking place in Rwanda while she was in school learning only about the horrors of the […]

Book Draws Parallels Between Holocaust and Palestinian Nakba, Sparks Outrage

JNS.org – A new book that draws parallels between the Holocaust and the Palestinian Nakba (the Arabic term for the displacement of Palestinian refugees during Israel’s War of Independence) has sparked outrage ahead of an official book launch, to be hosted by the Van Leer Jerusalem Institute on Sept. 7. The Zionist organization Im Tirtzu wrote a letter to the institute demanding that it cancel an event it planned in honor of the book’s authors, under the title The Holocaust and […]

Natalie Portman Says Holocaust Education Shouldn’t be Used for ‘Fearmongering’

Famed actress Natalie Portman warned on Friday against the use of Holocaust education to evoke fear and paranoia. In an interview with the U.K. Independent she added that the trauma should make Jews more empathetic to others who have also experienced hatred. “Sometimes it can be subverted to fearmongering and like ‘Another Holocaust is going to happen,’” the Israeli-American star said. “We need to, of course, be aware that hatred exists, antisemitism exists against all sorts of people, not in the same way. I […]

A Righteous Gentile Navigates the Sharkpool of Washington’s Middle East Correspondents (REVIEW)

The Tribalist, by Louis Marano, is ostensibly a work of fiction but at its core a kind of love song by a gentile journalist for the State of Israel, and especially its secular Zionist core. (Because of the relentless attacks by left-wing polemicists on Israel’s allegedly “messianic” fringe, it’s often forgotten that most of Israel’s founders and all its leaders have been secular Zionists.) The author, the product of an Italian-American family in Buffalo, served two tours of duty in […]
