Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany (Claims Conference)
For over sixty years survivors have relied on the Claims Conference to extract restitution from the perpetrators of the Holocaust. Berman currently leads the charge as the Chairman of the Board. With over $70 billion recouped since 1952, the Claims Conference funds everything from pension programs to Birthright trips. In November 2012, Berman signed an agreement with the German government that will see continued payments to survivors, though he emphasized money was only a small part of the bigger picture. “Our work has never been about the money. It has always been about the recognition, the validation, the acknowledgment of Holocaust victims.”
