WSJ – WASHINGTON—President Barack Obama said the White House needed further proof that Syria’s security forces gassed civilians and rebels to change his “calculus” concerning possible U.S. intervention in the two-year-old civil war.
Mr. Obama’s position doused hopes among the Syrian opposition and their supporters on Friday that the U.S. military might move imminently against President Bashar al-Assad’s forces to guard against the further use of chemical weapons against the government’s opponents.
