Turkey Moves to Restrict Alcohol Sales, Ban Advertisement

WSJ – ISTANBUL—Turkey moved Friday to restrict alcohol sales and ban advertisements, worrying producers and drawing fire from secular Turks who accuse the government of having an Islamist agenda.

A bill passed by the Parliament would ban retail alcohol sales between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. and halt all advertising and promotion of alcohol-related products. It also seeks to eradicate scenes that could be construed as encouraging consumption of alcohol from television shows, movies and music videos.
