Montreal’s Cafe Shalom Firebombed, Follows Similar Attack on Nearby Kosher Restaurant
by Zach Pontz
Cafe Shalom in Montreal was the target of a molotov-style arson attack early Friday morning, The Montreal Gazette reports.
Montreal police said that two firebombs were thrown into the cafe but that only light damage was caused, mostly due to water raining down from the sprinkler system.
The owner of the cafe reportedly told police that he had not been subjected to any recent threats or harassment. However, a similar incident occurred last October at another R in the area—the high-end kosher Chops Resto Bar. In that instance, a single Molotov was thrown in through a front window, though it too was extinguished by the sprinkler system on the premises.
Two suspects wearing hoodies were spotted fleeing the scene, though the Montreal Gazette reported that “Details were not immediately available Friday on any results of the earlier investigation.”
