‘Princesses of Long Island’ is Not Good for the Jews

So, the question I asked a few weeks ago; “‘Is Princesses: Long Island’ (the TV show) good for the Jews?” can now clearly be answered, now that Episode 2 has aired on Bravo. The show most definitely is NOT good for the Jews. It is offensive, over-the-top and frankly stupid. These women don’t reflect well on themselves, Jews, or for that matter, the human race. Like much of reality TV, it’s offensive.

Anyone seeking affirmation that this show isn’t good for the Jews should look no further than Haaretz – a newspaper which is rarely referenced for its love of the Jewish people. A columnist for the paper recently wrote: “Never again must we wonder if something is bad for the Jews […] you’ll never have to ask yourself this question again. All you have to do is compare it to ‘Princesses: Long Island,” and “you’ll realize that absolutely nothing in the media will ever be as truly horrible for the Jewish people.”

The Jewish Journal of Los Angeles said it “…may possibly be the most offensive reality TV show ever.” JTA says the show “…appears to be just as bad for the Jews as we’d assumed it would be.”

I have never met anyone in all my travels in the Jewish world who is as outlandish as these girls (I wont call them women). And while indeed reality TV is often offensive, this gross show is simply over the top. One can just imagine people from New Jersey watching it and being thankful they are from Jersey, (indeed, there’s a first time for everything).

While I am not sure I’d go as far as Ha’aretz did, this show is not good for the Jews. The good news – if there can be any when it comes to this show – is that it is so horrible that it surely won’t be on-air for long.
