Hamas is feeling the squeeze now that its relationship with Iran and Hezbollah has become frayed. Israel’s Channel 2 reports that the organization’s weapons stockpile has been hit hard as a result of its support for Syrian rebels.

Iran and Hezbollah, which in the past supported the Gaza-based terror organization, have chosen to back Syrian President Bashar al-Assad  and have not taken too kindly to Hamas’s dissenting position.

As punishment the two patrons have ceased the shipment of weapons, which used to arrive via tunnels from the Sinai or on boats to the Gaza Strip. As a result, following Hamas’ conflict with Israel in November, which saw a major depletion in the organization’s weapons stockpile, there is now a shortage of weapons.

A source told Channel 2 that this has weakened Hamas considerably and the terror organization would be hard-pressed to sustain any sort of terror assault in a future conflict with Israel. The source added that the dearth of weapons has also created friction within the terror movement, with many officials hoping that an about face on Syria would help to resume the flow of weapons into Gaza.
