Pope Francis sent a special birthday greeting to Israeli President Shimon Peres Monday, a day ahead of official festivities that will mark the elder-statesman’s 90th year.

The Pope thanked Peres for his visit to the Vatican in April, and offered his prayers, citing Psalm 91, which concludes: “With long life I will satisfy Him and show Him my salvation.”

The Pope added that God, who has already blessed Peres with 90 years, would continue to bless and preserve him, as is written in the priestly blessing of Numbers 6:24-26.
