The following are quotes from Glenn Greenwald, ‘Comment is Free’ correspondent for the Guardian. (Greenwald joined the Guardian in 2012 after several years of blogging at Salon.com and a personal blog titled ‘Unclaimed Territory‘.)

  • “Anyone who has argued that a desire to protect Israeli interests plays too large of a role in our foreign policy has been subjected to some of the most vicious and relentless smears. Ask Juan Cole about that, or John Mearsheimer and Stephen Walt. Those tactics have, as intended, prevented a substantive debate on this question, as most people have feared even approaching the topic.” - July 16, 2006 Unclaimed Territory
  • Large and extremely influential Jewish donor groups are the ones agitating for a US war against Iran, and that is the case because those groups are devoted to promoting Israel’s interests.” - Feb. 3, 2007, Unclaimed Territory
  • “The dominant narrative among neocons and the media is that, deep down in his heart, [Obama] may be insufficiently devoted to Israel to be president of the United States. Has there ever been another country to which American politicians were required to pledge their uncritical, absolute loyalty the way they are, now, with Israel?” - May 13, 2008 Salon
  • If you don’t…pledge your loyalty to our policies toward Israel and to Israel, what will happen to you is what just happened to Charles Freeman. You’ll be demonized and have your career ended.” - Jan. 8, 2009, interview on Hugh Hewitt  Show
  • “Those [American Jews] who favor the attack on Gaza are certainly guilty…of such overwhelming emotional and cultural attachment to Israel and Israelis that they long ago ceased viewing this conflict with any remnant of objectivity.” - Jan. 4, 2009 Salon
  • “So absolute has the Israel-centric stranglehold on American policy been that the U.S. Government has made it illegal to broadcast Hezbollah television stations and has even devoted its resources to criminally prosecuting and imprisoning satellite providers merely for including Hezbollah’s Al Manar channel in their cable package.  Not even our Constitution’s First Amendment has been a match for the endless exploitation of American policy, law and resources to target and punish Israel’s enemies.” – March 9, 2009, Salon
  • The real goal [of the Israel lobby], as always, was to ensure that there is no debate over America’s indescribably self-destructive, blind support for Israeli actions. [Charles] Freeman’s critics may have scored a short-term victory in that regard, but the more obvious it becomes what is really driving these scandals, the more difficult it will be to maintain this suffocating control over American debates and American policy.” – March 11, 2009 Salon
  • “The point is that the power the [Israel lobby] exercises [is] harmful in the extreme. They use it to squelch debate, destroy the careers and reputations of those who deviate from their orthodoxies, and compel both political parties to maintain strict adherence to an agenda that is held by a minority of Americans; that is principally concerned with the interests of a foreign country; and that results in serious cost and harm to the United States. In doing so, they insure not only that our policies towards Israel remain firmly in place no matter the outcome of our elections, but also that those policies remain beyond the realm of what can be questioned or debated by those who want to have a political future.” – March 11, 2009 Salon
  • “[Charles] Freeman is being dragged through the mud by the standard cast of accusatory Israel-centric neocons (Marty Peretz, Jon Chait, Jeffrey Goldberg, Commentary, The Weekly Standard’s Michael Goldfarb, etc. etc., etc.).” – March 9, 2009 Salon
  • “Meanwhile, one of the many Israel-Firsters in the U.S. Congress — Rep. Anthony Weiner, last seen lambasting President Obama for daring to publicly mention a difference between the U.S. and Israel — today not only defended Israel’s attack. – June 1, 2010 Salon
  • This is a truly disgusting spectacle…commentators — all of whom are writing well within the range of mainstream opinion on Israel — are being publicly smeared early in their careers as anti-Semites as part of a coordinated, ongoing campaign planned by Josh Block and carried out by numerous journalists with large media platforms, and aided and abetted by Jewish groups trading on their credibility to suppress debate. – Jan 19, 2012 Salon

People who don’t agree with Greenwald: Prove him wrong on the issues mentioned, please. Else it is just the very smear tactic he is accusing the pro-Israel crowd for.

Keep on shouting wolf, nobody believes you anymore

    • Adam Levick

So, I’ll assume you’re a liberal. And, you’re truly asking me to prove that Greenwald is wrong when he argues that the organized Jewish community controls Washington? Seriously? What about antisemitic tropes concerning the ‘danger’ posed by ‘Jewish power’ don’t you understand?

    • UNNECESSARY TO PROVE GREENWALD WRONG OR RIGHT. WHEN IT COMES TO ANTI-SEMITISM YOU EITHER ARE OR YOU ARE NOT AN ANTI-SEMITE!

  • Tim Behrend

In the quotes Levick provides Greenwald has made no reference to Jewish faith or ethnicity. He is a critic of a state and its policies and its supporters. Nothing is exposed that remotely resembles anti-Semitism here.

    • “Large and extremely influential Jewish donor groups are the ones agitating for a US war against Iran, and that is the case because those groups are devoted to promoting Israel’s interests.”

  • Greenwald’s comments aside, the TIMING of an article like this is shameful. A year ago, a year from now, debate his comments and personal views. But now, when Greenwald’s put his neck on the chopping block to deliver an important exposé and the focus should be on debating national security and privacy issues – the attack shifts to……. the messenger. Shameful.

    • Scott, I’ve been writing about Greenwald for over three years, and see no reason – whatever your views of Snowden and the NSA – why his commentary past and present should be spared critical scrutiny.

  • Kris Kristian

The best way to make a living, is to demn the Jews.
What would this mumser do if he did not write htered of Jews?
He would be sweeping the streets.
    That is all he deserves

  • Why do Glenn Greenwald’s comments sound almost exactly like the comments of America Firster anti-Semitic pro-Nazi isolationists just prior to World War II? (you know, the same people–Charles Lindbergh among them–who wanted to sit idly by and allow for a war that killed 50 million people to become unaviodable)

Just replace his use of the word “Israel” with the word “Jews.”

  • It is always sad and disappointing to hear Jewish people making anti semitic statements. They forget that so many hate the Jews that we should at least stick together or at least remain silent.

  • It is easy for Jews to talk I prefer action. So help with this.

Desert Cattle to the Rescue, Texas Longhorn
I like guns but for me they are just tools, a tool to protect the cattle and myself. But the cattle have something better, sharp horns. They can kill and it takes a lot less explaining afterwards then it does if I shot the SOB.

Israeli Ranches are being attacked, their land being stolen and their passive European cattle are being mutilated and killed by local Arabs and by natural predators, wolves and jackals. Israeli European beef cattle are incompatible with Israel’s desert environment. This has resulted in many problems including high calf losses, (as high as 30%). Israel needs desert cattle that fits its environment and can defend it’s self and it’s calves. That breed of cattle is Texas Longhorn. We are 501 c 3 non-profit. To start we need $256,000. Go to our website and donate: http://LonghornProject.org

Recently, I received reports of ranchers and their families being murdered.

We will be using 22nd century cattle handle methods called, Stockmanship and ecological grazing techniques called Strategic Grazing. Both will be taught to Israeli Ranchers.

    Stockmanship

A method of moving cattle without stress, it is a method that uses the cow or herd’s body space. Just like in people when someone gets to close to you, you move away from the pressure. Cattle do the very same thing. We use press and release with the cattle simple by moving into their personal space and then releasing the pressure by moving out. This causes then to yield to then pressure and move off in the direction we asked for. This can be use for any kind of herd animal. Once the pressure is released the animal feels relief and stays in the location you place them until you move them again. Animals demonstrate a positive and pleasurable response to this method of movement, Stockmanship.

This method of animal handling also improves meat quality, increasing tenderness, increasing meat quantity. It decreases disease and meat deformity and discoloring. There are fewer dark cutters therefore more kosher cattle.
    Strategic Grazing

A method of herd grazing using every part of your pasture. Cattle or herd animals prefer grazing in the same locations every day, where they are most comfortable. This does not allow the plant life to restore itself, causing defoliation. While other areas become over grown.

Dividing your pasture into equal parts and having your herd graze in each area separately before moving on to the next. Resting grazed areas for days, weeks or even months, restoring plant life. This can be done with electric fencing or even better it can be done with Stockmanship.

  • I have seen the enemy it is Greenwald. We can overcome Iran, Hammas, Hizbollah, Syria etc., He represents the greatest of threats along with a few more. May they all be damned.

    • These comments are purely political, I cannot see why anybody would claim they were anti-Semitic. One can quite simply reduce such statements to ad hominem chatter….

  • Eric Ehrmann

Greenwald’s beef is more with J Street politics than with classic anti-semitism. But he is in alignment with Brazil foreign policy trying to have it both ways.

The concern is that the potential for a new “non-anti semitism antisemitism” becomes greater when you combine Greenwald’s statements you out here with the work of 2006 Prix Goncourt winner Jonathan Littell, who has walked away from his Jewish heritage to shill for the Palestinian and Holocaust Denier cause. Littell, who was awarded the prize by the committee even before his French citizenship was given to him authored the selfish 900 page book “The Kindly Ones” offering a world view seen through the eyes of an SS officer. Of course the Guardian buzzed it up. http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2006/nov/06/news.prixgoncourt

Important to keep in mind regarding Greenwald is that The Guardian is a money losing venture and is funded by The Scott Trust, which while seeming left wing, is actually more Libertarian than American-style liberal.

One could do some deep background on his friend Assange and probably put him in alignment with the likes of Greenwald and Littell. As they say “es gibt Juden, auch Juden… und es gibt Bauchjuden.” Greenwald is none of the above.

  • We in Canada have a similar type idiot named Neil MacDonald who works for the CBC, Canada’s national network.

What the two have in common is that they never miss an opportunity to bash Israel, in every circumstance possible. In fact, they are both fools with an anti-semitic heart that finds it’s outlet in making Israel the enemy as that is apparently politically acceptable.

It doesn’t take a genius to smell out what these two are actually thinking. Pity them, they have the disease and it’s already consumed them.

True conservatism defends the Constitution & thus civil liberties, as do some liberals like Greenwald who far out-conservative the neocons. The “neocons” advocate restricting civil liberties and promoting entangling alliances, and spending on aggressive wars & foreign intervention — & since it so happens that though now largely not Jewish, the neocon founders & top voices have been Jewish & also proclaim support Israel, criticism of neoconservatism is rashly labeled antisemitic, when really neocon policies just suck & so are worthy of criticism. It’s neocon policy, not Constitutionalism, that gives give rise to antisemitism as they alienate, engender hostility, & give proof for real antisemites to point to to back up Jews-behind-wars libels. Certainly there are vocal antisemitic libertarians, but if Greenwald is one of them (& he may be), this article doesn’t quite prove it, even if he does quote antisemites. Some libertarians really just disagree with policy. The broad false characterizations thrown against libertarians, besides being immoral, are not even pragmatic. It is no coincidence we Tea Party activists (before co-opted) overwhelmingly supported Israel, but b/c of disproportionate necon voice, Israel and GOP are trading this massive base for the tiny but vocal alliance of neocons w/ fringe reconstructionist “family” lobby (deep & dangerous irony there). Lovers of Israel need to be careful of their own libels ;)

  • Antisemetic Jews like Greenwald have figured out their only way to make a successful career–through self hatred. Otherwise, Glenn Greenwald would be sweeping floors and cleaning urinals in a bank.

    • shelly leibowitz

Heaven help the bank ! Unfortunately, these self-hating jews can be dangerous. As we know in South Africa

  • Alana Ronald

Has he ever been interviewed on this subject? d His self-hate is likely unconscious, the result of a misplaced pride at what he thinks is his extreme logic and rationalism, but worse than missing the forest for the trees, succeeds only too well in providing fuel for helping to set forest fires. He may wake up too late to find himself a victim of just that fire he has carelessly helped to set.

As far as we have always understood as commonplace fact, Israel struggles to survive sovereign in her middle-eastern territory surrounded by thousand-old enemies who pray to their god that Zion be wiped out. The US have, since their foundation as a nation, had strong bonds with Israel for political, cultural, comercial and scientific reasons. It is natural that both countries remain united for mutual benefit.

  • Greenwald makes sense to me. He seems to be more Pro-American than anti- anything else.

  • Greenwald is jewish, right?

We need more Greenwald – LESS YOU.

    • Wrong, George. We need more CiF Watch and people like Walter Russell Mead and less people like you and pseudo intellectual knee-jerk liberal Greenwald.

    • Greenwald is a self-hating Jew. There are many of them, and have been for centuries. 2000 years ago they were called Sadducees. They hope that by proving they are not “too Jewish” that gentiles will accept them. Anything which would advance Jews, in a world of vast Jew hatred, must be condemned by those such as Greenwald. There were many in Germany in the 1920s and 1930s. For some reason, Hitler did not accept their self hatred as a reason to spare them, nor will any Jew hater forgive a self-hating Jew, just because he bends over backwards to distance himself from issues concerning Jews, or, often, taking opposing sides. Never was ‘devil’s advocate’ a more appropriate term.

Romirowsky and Joffe’s book Religion, Politics and the Origins of Palestine Refugee Relief is an important volume for those interested in truly understanding the origins of the Palestinian refugee issue. Utilizing a treasure trove of newly released documents, the authors link UNRWA’s (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine) origins to the Quakers/American Friends Service Committee (AFSC). Israeli Soccer Team Faces Prospect of International Ban

The Israel National soccer team could be facing a World Cup ban, and other soccer sanctions, unless it alleviates travel restrictions and increases field access for Palestinian players and coaches. The head of the Palestinian Football Association is pushing for international soccer’s governing body, the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA), to issue a ban on Israel competing internationally, claiming Israel’s restrictive travel for Palestinians is equivalent to a form of oppression. “It’s not only the athletes,” Jibril Rajoub explains. Jewish Author of ‘Eat to Live’ Dishes on Health Care, Nutrition, Disease Prevention

JNS.org – While the national debate on “Obamacare” rages on past the recent March 31 sign-up deadline, bestselling Jewish author Dr. Joel Fuhrman says the “current disease care model of what we call ‘health care’ cannot possibly be sustained.” “There is simply not enough money available to support a system in which the lion’s share of expenditures is devoted to acute care, with virtually nothing being spent on preventive medicine, i.e. health care,” Fuhrman says in an interview. “To make [...]

I want to spread my wings.” So reads part of the description beneath one of the 30 paintings on display until the end of May at the ZOA House in Tel Aviv. The collection represents the first-ever art exhibit of its kind: an exhibit created entirely by Israelis in treatment for eating disorders. Dubbed “Tears of Color,” based on one of the [...]

JNS.org – Rachel Ament noticed that she and her friends often shared humorous anecdotes that were typically variations on a theme: overprotective, worrying Jewish moms who smothered them with love. That included Ament’s own mother. “My mom is probably every Jewish stereotype scrunched into one,” the Washington, DC, resident tells JNS.org. “At the root of all these stereotypical, worrying, overprotective moms, is love.” A social media writer for Capital One, as well as a freelance writer, Ament decided about three years [...]

Kosher Lust, by Shmuley Boteach (Gefen Publishing House, 2014). You really do want to find something positive to say about Shmuley Boteach. He is a phenomenon; very bright, an articulate bundle of energy and self-promotion. Anyone who has the chutzpah to describe himself as “America’s Rabbi” deserves ten out of ten for effort. I believe that along with most Chabad alumni, official and unofficial, he does a lot of good and is a sort of national treasure. In this world [...]
