IDF Says Hezbollah Weapons Cache Exceeds 60,000 Rockets, All Israel in Range

On the seventh anniversary of the start of the month-long Second Lebanon War, marked Friday, the Israel Defense Forces said in a statement that Lebanese terror group Hezbollah has dramatically expanded its arsenal of weapons, exceeding 60,000 rockets and missiles in 1,000 military facilities, making the terrorist group capable of striking any part of Israel with continuous, precise attacks.

The organization’s missiles endanger Israel’s entire population, the IDF said. Hezbollah’s upgraded stockpile can strike at any of Israel’s civilian centers, including its southernmost city of Eilat. Thousands of missiles can strike targets within 40 kilometers, placing Israel’s northern region at risk of a devastating attack.

Seven years ago today, Hezbollah terrorists abducted two IDF soldiers in an unprovoked assault on Israel’s northern border. The attack sparked the Second Lebanon War, a month-long conflict in which Hezbollah fired over 4,000 rockets at Israeli civilians.

The war ended with UN Security Council Resolution 1701. The international measure sought to limit Hezbollah’s activities, demanding its departure from Southern Lebanon. In violation of the resolution, Hezbollah has dramatically expanded its weapons stockpile, building the arsenal of over 60,000 rockets and missiles near Israel’s border.

Since the war, Hezbollah has tripled the size of its missile arsenal. In 2010, Former US Secretary of Defense Robert Gates commented that Hezbollah “has more missiles than most governments in the world.” IDF officials have expressed similar concerns, citing intelligence analysis that points to the rapid growth of Hezbollah’s stockpile.

In 2009, an IDF intelligence report revealed that Hezbollah had built close to 1,000 military facilities throughout Southern Lebanon. The installations included more than 550 weapons bunkers and 300 underground facilities. Since the report’s release, Hezbollah has continued to build facilities in the region, enhancing its ability to strike at nearby Israeli towns and cities.

Hezbollah’s weapons are capable of causing far more substantial damage than its 2006 arsenal. With its current abilities, Hezbollah is capable of bombarding Israel with continuous, precise attacks over an extended period of time.

Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah has boasted about the broad reach of Hezbollah’s missiles. In a 2007 news interview, he asserted that the group’s missiles “could absolutely reach any corner and any point” in Israel’s territory. In a speech in August 2012, he proclaimed that a future Hezbollah assault would “turn the lives of thousands of Zionists into a living hell.”

The terrorist organization receives most of its missiles from Iran and Syria, its key supporters in the region. With help from both countries, the organization regularly smuggles weapons into Lebanon. In 2009, Israel’s Navy intercepted a ship carrying 500 tons of weapons intended for Hezbollah operatives.

Hezbollah intentionally places many of its weapons in populated areas – using Lebanon’s people as human shields, the IDF said. This strategy ensures that counter attacks targeting terrorists will instead strike civilian communities. There are 160 villages in Southern Lebanon alone where Hezbollah is hiding weapons.

The organization’s method is evident in the Lebanese village of al-Khiam. Approximately 90 terrorists operate in the village, where Hezbollah uses homes, schools and hospitals to store thousands of tons of bombs and explosives.

The IDF keeps a close eye on Hezbollah’s military advancement. With 60,000 missiles and 1,000 military facilities, the organization presents a major threat to Israel’s security. Seven years after its war with Hezbollah, the IDF says it remains determined to protect Israeli civilians and to stop terror.

  • My friends of Israel, get up, Don’t sleep.America is not your sincere friend. It can adjust you in safe area(in America) but you are in a Muslim zone. They may weak now but
they are awaking gradually. Hizabullah has miraculous power.
It will erase you. Iran is another.and if arabs will wake?

  • Maybe it’s time for Israel to announce that in the event Hizbollah fires even a single missile at an Israeli civilian target, Israel will treat every missile storage facility as the military target it is, and will seek to wipe them out.

  • ACTA NON VERBA-Not only this comes from Rome, but it is also the motto of the United States Merchant Marine Academy – But please let us not ask the Americans to act. When they do, they write “mother” with 8 mistakes. They should let professional, apt people decide what to do, and if asked they could help out but only according to very specific directions- they should be a second fiddler, something genetically they are not able to be. They “have” to lead and when they do, they do it very poorly. Look at the facts, – they made war on Iraq instead of taking care of Iran. Now, because of their failure in Iraq they have become as brave as “rabbits” and they do not act on Iran. The USA of 1942-45 has gone forever and instead we have an oversized buddy with a very soft punch.

why did the IDF and the GOI allow this to happen?

  • Aliens “I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit.”

  • Do you believed muslim is a loud speaker of protection to the muslim but they put the lives of thousand, for the protection of their weapons Wake Palestine you are not a toys your leaders are the DEVIL

    • Does Hezbollah really think they can destroy Israel with their rockets. Great leaders who hide their weapons in areas of innocent people. Devils way of fighting. Little do they know that Michael the archangel who guards Israel from destruction till God and Jesus establish their Kingdom. No one knows the powers that he has or his defensive protection he will deploy Surely it is the end times and the one whom you crucified is returning like the one you look for the warrior not the Lamb who set out to save the world. YOU stiff necked people Repent and take the salvation that he has given you, before it is too late. The leaders in your country still don’t believe in Jesus saving power. Get a New testament Bible and read the truth in Revelation. The lord has put a stumbling block before your leaders. Read and be Saved is my cry to my brothers in the lord. Paul

      • i agree. i am a moslem n the qoran does say the same thing. israel will not be defeated and cannot be defeated until the day of reckoning. jesus will surely return, we believe so too. in other words, hezbollah’s stockpiling of missile isn’t a real threat to israel. i believe the well-learned scholars is the jewish state knows that, but idf is merely playing the mind games with the israel masses with such statements.

  • If the world does not care about this blatant weapons buildup then when the next Lebanon war starts Israel will end up destroying all of Lebanon, which it can.
Yes, the missiles will do a lot of damage in Israel, but, Lebanon will be destroyed.

  • An attack of any magnitude upon Israel will be met with an appropriate response from Israel..Masada will not fall again

    • Kris Kristian

The problem is that if Israel destroys the Hezballa arsenal, the UN Security Council will condemn Israel disproportionate”attack on an ‘innocent” people.
Israel will agin be blamed for killing women and children

The big problem that Israel faces, is that Hezballa has 60000 lissiles.
Besides that, Saudi Arabia and Iran have their rockets aimed at Israel. So Israel is in a vice.

And Obama wants Israel to make more concessions to the Muslims by releasing the terrorist prisoners and give most of Israel to the murdering Islamic terrorists.

  • Luigi Rosolin

Till UN are favoring Palestinian and consequently Hezbollah with the Iranian-Syria ideological declare intention to destroy Israel the only way that that can be change is a political change of UN.
The UN ignoring of the build up of Hezbollah is hypocrite, UN is not politically giving justice and had been partisan not only against Jews but with many other country.
UN can be trust as is corrupt and influenced by nation’s interest that often are unjust.
Israel must plane in case of war immediate control of the Palestinian with all risk associate, is not other way to disarm the fanatic Hezbollah.

  • The world knows all of these data, and yet Israel is portrayed as an evil and oppressive country in the Middle East. Every country has the right to protect their own borders.
Think about 60,000 missiles. What would the United States do if let’s say, hypothetically, Canada had 60,000 missiles and their leader said they will “turn the lives of thousands of Americans into a living hell.” How would America respond?

    • Luigi Rosolin

The data is know only to the leader, most of the common people are not aware of the Hezbollah armament and Palestinian’s are portrait as victim, most people don’t know the realty. Media in the west is not reporting such thing.

    • Obama would respond by appointing Canadians to be part of our government and would talk to them and borrow money to give them foreign aid.

    • Unfortunately, Obama would probably rejoice. The world is, to a very large extent, dedicated to Jew hating. If Hezbollah, G-d forbid, displayed a nuclear weapon, poised to be fired at Jerusalem, the UN would undoubtedly chastise Israel for being in the way of peace.

    • James Crozier

Ya need to use a country that is believable as a missile wielding nut job harboring zealots like…um… lets see Castros Cuba. Oh..that’s right …Castro DID import missiles from the USSR.
      You’re so young.

    • Incredible. The World is kowtowing to the muslims.
We need new election without cheating and we have to demand Id photo and fingerprints

    • firstly, ask yourself how hezbollah was able to arm themselves with 60000 missiles? i believe the figure is exaggerated. even if they do, israel’s anti missile laser can shoot them down easily, as they always did and has done. you peeps have no reason to worry.

  • Electro-magnetic pulse weapons. Turns everything into paperweights.

  • I’m not sure the world cares so much for people who are used as human shields. Many countries are putting up with terrorism and terrorist attacks on their land. The world does not see bombing a school which has weapons in it as a school anymore. Fight fire with fire.

    • Absolutely true, unless that country is Israel.

    • Sonia Willats

But Israel’s problem is that the world DOES see a school or hospital or mosque or house which has weapons in it as a CIVILLIAN TARGET and Hezbollah and the terrorist regime in Gaza use this fact to demonise Israel when she is FORCED TO RETALLIATE TO NEUTRALISE THE THREAT. EACH TIME ISRAEL IS PORTRAYED AS THE VILLAIN. True that the world does not care about civilian deaths, or the death toll in Syria would not be over 100 000 but Israel is not supposed to defend herself, according to the world’s logic.

  • Should there be another conflict, Israel will have no other choice than to quickly and forcefully wipe out much of Lebanon. There can be no prolonged war again as it will cause far too much damage to Israel.

Thus there will be a lot of deaths should this come to happen so let’s hope it doesn’t.

    • James Crozier

The reality is with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard backing of Hez-b-allah is that even a fast advance will result in jihadi and their ilk spilling over from Syria destabilizing the Lebanese theater and forcing the use of greater force for a much more prolonged period.
I agree whole hartedly that any foray into Lebanon needs to be quick, but reality has a way of taking the best laid plans to ruin.

    • Sonia Willats

And Israel will be demonised even if there is ONE civilian death. Yet all of Israel sits with deadly missiles aimed at it by Saudi Arabia, Hezbollah and ?Iran. We do not hear of any indignation from the countries of the world as to how this preposterous situation came about; nor of any resolution to PREVENT catastrophe.

  • Bernard Ross

apparently the UN, the lebanese people are aware of this situation but have decided it is not important. Israel must proceed on the basis of safeguarding its own citizens and not participating in the game set up by the UN and lebanon. destroy the missiles regardless of civilians. they are all aware and can move or protest.
