A Syrian army helicopter fired several rockets Monday at an illegal border crossing in northeast Lebanon, Lebanese security sources told The Daily Star.

At least three rockets were fired by the Syrian aircraft into Khirbet Daoud, sources told the newspaper.

The Daily Star reported that Khirbet Daoud, located near the northeastern border town of Arsal, has been the target of air raids in the past.

In June, A Syrian helicopter gunship fired at rebels fleeing into the area. Two months prior, a Syrian helicopter gunship also fired rockets on Khirbet Daoud and neighboring Seraj al-Ajram, slightly wounding a resident.

On Saturday, nine displaced Syrian nationals were killed in a Syrian airstrike near the Arsal border region. There were conflicting reports as to whether the airstrikes took place on Lebanese or Syrian territory. The Hezbollah-run news outlet Al-Manar claimed that the attacks had taken place on Syrian soil, while the mayor of Arsal, Ali Al-Hajiry, told Asharq Al-Awsat that the Syrian Air Force had carried out two raids, one of which took place inside Lebanon.
