An “Al Quds Day” protest in Toronto on Saturday provided “stark evidence that Canadian children are being steeped in anti-Israel and anti-Jewish hatred from infancy,” B’nai Brith Canada said, in a statement Tuesday.
“Not only were children of all ages used as props for the cameras, but this year they were also given the microphone to spread lies and whip up hatred against the Jewish people,” the Jewish human rights agency said.
“Sadly, we have grown accustomed to hearing the hateful rhetoric spewed by adults at these pro-Iranian-regime, anti-Israel events, but this year’s Al Quds Day protest sank to a new low with the use of children to spread lies and hatred. Canadian children are being indoctrinated and groomed as future leaders by people who openly support the Iranian regime, the late Ayatollah Khomeini and the banned terrorist group Hezbollah,” said Frank Dimant, CEO, B’nai Brith Canada.
“B’nai Brith Canada is in ongoing discussions with security experts concerning the short- and long-term danger this poses to Canadians and Israelis and has provided high-quality video of the event to the Toronto Police Service,” he continued.
Across the globe, “Al Quds Day,” established in Iran in 1979, is commemorated on the final Friday of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, to express solidarity with Palestinian Arabs, oppose Zionism and Israel’s presence in Jerusalem, known as al Quds, in Arabic. This year, many of the Al Quds protests were more violent, racist and anti-Semitic than in previous years, prompting human rights and Jewish groups to protest the escalation.
