Politico – The New York Times editorial board said Eliot Spitzer “lacks the qualities” needed for the job of city comptroller as it endorsed his opponent Scott Stringer in the high-profile Democratic primary race.

Spitzer, who resigned as governor amid a prostitution scandal and has since sought personal and political redemption, “entered the race at the last minute, seemingly for no reason except to thrust himself back into the limelight,” the board of New York’s paper of record wrote in an editorial published online Friday. ” … But that is a problem: it’s the same character, in a different play, on the wrong stage.”
