One of the girls who was a victim of an acid attack on the island of Zanzibar last month fears her attackers will never be caught, the Sunday Times reported on Sunday.

“I feel very frustrated and upset that our attackers haven’t been caught. Stone Town [the old part of Zanzibar’s capital] is too small for it to be this hard and I fear they will never be caught,” Kirstie Trup told the newspaper.

Trup, along with her friend Katie Gee, both 18 and both Jewish, were on a month-long volunteer trip to the mostly-Muslim island when two men on a moped doused them with acid. Friends said the attack might have been motivated by anti-Semitism.

The Sunday Times reported that the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office has been liaising closely with authorities in Zanzibar, and that a possible suspect has been identified.

Trup suffered severe chemical burns to her shoulder and back from the sulphuric acid. She received treatment, including a skin graft, after being flown back to London shortly after the incident. She is expected to take up a place at Bristol University at the end of the month, where she will study history.
