On a state visit to Moscow Wednesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly asked Russian President Vladimir Putin to assert himself over U.S. President Barack Obama as the main peacekeeper in the Iranian nuclear negotiations, just as Putin did over the chemical weapons in Syria, according to a report on Thursday in Russia’s Kommersant that cited unnamed diplomatic sources.

Kommersant said the deal on the table today from the world powers in Geneva stipulates a six-month suspension of work on Iran’s nuclear facilities, in exchange for releasing $3 billion of frozen assets in international banks and a reduction in sanctions that would provide Tehran with an another $10 billion.

The newspaper cited a source close to the Israeli government as saying, “Netanyahu understands that the deal, insisted on by the United States, will be concluded,” and he sees no way to influence Washington any further in the matter.

“The looming agreement with Iran would have been acceptable two years ago, but not now,” a source close to Netanyahu told Kommersant. “Sometimes a bad agreement is worse than none. North Korea, for example, turned out to acquire nuclear weapons within a month after a written contract” was signed, saying that they wouldn’t.

Its sources said Netanyahu’s goal in the visit to Moscow was to convince the Russian leadership to achieve the maximum possible from Tehran with real concessions formalized in a binding agreement.

“We hope that Russia, as a key member of the negotiating process in Geneva, will be able to change the situation,” the Israeli diplomatic source said, adding that the key concession would be to get tougher control over Iranian nuclear facilities and opportunities to peer within the “secrets of the enterprise.” Iran has said it would not allow full transparency in terms of inspections to its nuclear facilities.

Benny Briskin, director of the Russian Jewish Congress (RJC) and an adviser to Netanyahu for a decade, told Kommersant, “Moscow has well-developed links with Iran, as well as economic instruments that remain, despite international sanctions.”

“Slurred international policies from Barack Obama opens up new opportunities for the Kremlin to beat the U.S. in the diplomatic field,” Briskin said. “In Syria, Russia has won in every way, in the case of Iran, it also has the motivation to be in the forefront of addressing the serious global problems.”

  • why is it that people can never be happy? If you don’t like Obama, and who cares????, you should be happy Putin is taking the lead. What you all need is a good shrink. This is still the United States, not Israel.

  • Putin knows if Iran obtains Nuclear Armament eventually they will be positioned toward Russia. Putin, even with his outlawing the Koran, making terrorists accountable for damages and even expressing Christian roots, he still has much influence in the area as long as he seems siding against the US. This global game of chess is slowly coming to an end with all low information voters and unconcerned citizens of the world to be the most affected

Islam domination must be stopped and curtailed. Jefferson sent our first Marines to Tripoli to combat this cult with little problems for almost a hundred years. Positions of strength is what is respected, not weakness. Our administration is handicapped with intentional destruction of our might. The only result will be another power assuming this roll. China? Russia? Iran with the consolidation of Islam Califate? Indecision and giving up leadership has many unintended consequences.

    • I don’t think they’re unintended. President Obama is no friend of Israel (or the U.S.), although many, if not most, Americans are.

  • GEORGIE PORGIE

ONCE AGAIN … THE FIRST PROBLEM IS ALWAYS THE FAULT OF THE USA VOTING POPULATION… WHICH HAS BEEN PROVEN TO BE THE STUPIDEST BUNCH ON THE PLANET.. SECOND PROBLEM IS THE VOTING HISTORY OF THE SENATE LIBERAL REPUBLICANS AND DEMOCRATS.KEEPING THINGS IN PERSPECTIVE– BIBI TRUSTS COMMY PUTIN RATHER THAN OWEBOZO THE CLOWN… I DON’T BLAME HIM…

    • Wow, Georgie Porgie ! ! I never respond to comments. But your comment correlates precisely (and frighteningly) with my own thought. If only others harbored a similar perspective, maybe there might be a chance for salvation.

      • The silence of so many as to what has been happening in the United States over so many years, yielding for now the current Obama phenomenon, suggests an utter absence of political thought and a moral apathy. The consequences are just beginning to roll out.

  • Wow, Putin is asked by Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to take lead from Obama in Iran Negotiations. It was Putin who was standing up and asking others to help in stopping the persecution of innocent Christians who were being beaten, raped and murdered by the Obama supported Muslim Terrorists. Why didn’t/isn’t President Obama taking the lead in speaking out against this slaughter/extermination of Christians in Egypt, Syria, and Nigeria? It’s sad to say but it was/is because the Obama supported Terrorists in Egypt and Syria that have been slaughtering/exterminating the innocent Christians are on his payroll. How’s that get your goat. America needs a Constitution abiding Patriot leading this country, a leader not afraid to stand up against these terrorists. God Bless America and all Real Freedom Fighting Patriots.

If what is said about Obama being pro Islam I can only say he has behaved ever since attaining office behaved like a double tongued Islamic leader and the whole of the US was taken in. Having said this he is irrelevant in the coming months, whoever has been supplying Iran is also irrelevant what is relevant Iran will tow the line for anyone. Iran was to establish Islamic rule world wide. Iran has been trying to attain this objective since 1979. In our arrogance we took little notice of the Mad Mullahs. Iran cannot be far from perfecting a nuclear bomb. The rest of us are stupidly entering talks believing we will achieve an accord with Iran. This will NOT happen Iran wants War at any cost. All non Islamic nations need to form and alliance and strategy for dissolving any further nuclear progress and ridding the world of Islam. Islam is dangerous to us all, whether one is religious or not is irrelevant. Religion and politics DO NOT nor ever have mixed and this is what we are up against. Iran’s hidden agenda is control over OIL and Gas supplies world wide hiding behind Islam.

  • Appeasement never works in the Middle East!

  • I have many friends in America that voted for Obama, Jewish vote, so we are the only responsible our destiny.

  • Isn’t that a bit like replacing Hitler with Goebbels? I think you guys have lost the plot!

  • Bart A. Charta

The article’s about Bibi and Putin.

How did Ahamadinnerjacket get into the photo?

  • Well said BH and Allen Donow!
US had become a country that deserved to get Obama as a president… It all started from within,- when we crossed the line and gay marriage and abortion became norms of the society. I always wonder what merit UK had in order to have Margaret Thatcher as a leader? What should we do to get the same luck?

  • Where does Iran get its centrafuges and other high tech equipment from ?
That is surely the key !

    • Great point! I remember how excited one of my Russian colleagues was when her husband was sent by the Russian government to Iran as a military expert…

    • From Putin. There is no difference between Putin and Obama.
Putin is smarter than Obama, but that is. Putin deliver all the necessary ingredients to Iran so that Iran can make nukes

  • E. Patricia Coppola

I have to just add that I think that Mr.Donow Is making a good point, as scary as it may be it’s close to the truth. I hate to think what more damage Obama can do in the next three years!

  • E. Patricia Coppola

Who knows what to believe anymore? I can’t think who’s worse. It’s a huge mess and Obama is not any friend of Israel, or for that matter his own country. This is a time when we need real leadership and we have none. How frightening.

    Question

Who would ever have thought that in Nov 2013 Russia’s former KGB chief, Vladimir Putin and France would be more ALLIED with ISRAEL then this sitting US Pres, Son-Of-Islam barack HUSSEIN obama and the United States?

    Answer

Anyone breathing and conscious and aware of the FACT that obama is the most hostile-sitting US Pres in ISRAEL’s history

    • oBama is also the most hostile president to the US in history. Who could imagine a president who simultaneously alienates the unlikely combination of Israel, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia (and the fiasco in Libya)? And the US needs these countries! The president seems oblivious to the fact that the Iran issue is a life or death, no room for error issue for Israel. If one could have picked the worst moves to make in Egypt they will have described US policy – much of occurring under clinton. Unbelievable.

      • Judy Silver-Shapiro

My cup runneth over with reasons and proof to IMPEACH him….

        • Elliot J. Stamler

If you were not a hysterical ultra-conservative right-wing Republican ignoramus you would know the constitution, which you right-wingers hate, provides for impeachment only for “high crimes and misdemeanors” which obviously the president has not committed. To you being another example of a Jewish fascist many of whom read the Algemeiner you are incapable of understanding that because you intensely dislike a president’s policies that is not a ground for impeachment.

    • Yes, it is true that Obama his the most antisemitic anti Israeli president ever. But we have still GOPs and Congress who can stop him. I hope Congress will not allow to ease sanctions against Iran.

  • sounds like disinfo. Moscow is a backer of Iran why would BB ask him to do better than obama?

    • You’re right. It’s all propaganda theater. At the top it’s all one big mafia.

The Vatican “NWO” global mafia (via their CIA subsidiary) spawned and sponsored Ayatollah Khomeini from day one, not withstanding their propaganda theater for ignorant manipulated “muppets”. The “NWO” mafia always intended to lead the world into a thermonuclear genocide as part of their “population control” agenda.

Where their heavy metals laced poison “Vaccines”, their GMO and other poison “foods”, their poison water, their poison air, their poison pharma “medicines”, their work-till-you-drop-dead and other soft kill methods fall short, they simply employ war and genocide.

It’s not difficult to figure them out. They see us as dumb slaves and disposable chattel. Cut the emotional propaganda diet and the propaganda outlets, open your eyes, learn a little real history, and it’s all very clear.

      Nothing is coincidence.
      Nothing is by accident.
      Everything is planned.

    • Because Obama & Kerry’s “best” is also their worst. One would have to be delusional to believe they care about Israel, or suffering Syrians, for that matter. ‘Liberals’ with hearts of stone.

      • They are NOT liberals.

        • Yes, Efram. I agree. ‘Liberalism’ is a cloak. It’s like the old days where Marxism was regarded as being ultra-left, whereas it is total centralised control, so ultra-right. The USA seems to be run back-stage by ??? posing as Deomocats at this stage. One has to wonder what really is going on.

    • Judy Silver-Shapiro

BECAUSE ISRAEL CANNOT TRUST SON-OF-ISLAM obama

  • Good!
Even China is better than a muslim-socialist!

  • Good, Obama has been a belligerent, incompetent liar since his re-election. Why American Jews should suffer or not be well represented I do not know. The US deserves a president who is a real man like Netanyahu not those little baby girls Obama, Kerry, Assad, and Khomeini. How did we allow a communist/Muslim sympathizer, a frat boy, a daddy’s boy and a maniacal dictator to determine our future?

    • The answer to that question is easy. “We” voted Democrat and insisted that issues like aborting babies and allowing homosexuals to marry were the most important concerns of the U.S.

The similarity to the election of FDR, the so-called wonderful Democrat among the Democratic base is frightening. From the beginning of the rise of Hitler, through his murder of 6 million Jewish people, FDR watched and waited until Hitler was surely able to conclude his appointed task. When he finally allowed the U.S. to get involved the holocaust that occurred was unstoppable.

So now it is Obama’s turn for “greatness” in the eyes of his Democratic worshippers.

      • jacqueline Henriquez

My Word the level of ignorance in the USA on all matters is astonishing.
Better to be silent and thought a dumbass than to open your mouths and
        remove all doubt!

      • Judy Silver-Shapiro

JEWS who prioritize ‘social issues’ before ISRAEL’s security and JEWISH continuity are self-loathers AND are no better then Delano’s (FDR’s) ‘Court’ JEWs were who stood by idly while 6 MILLION JEWISH innocents, including 1.5 MILLION children, were savagely murdered and exterminated.

    • Some 70% of Jewish US voters sold out our economy, national security, and Israel’s security for gay marriage and abortion.

    • Agree. We need somebody like Netanyahu, or Danny Dannon
      or Avigdor Libermann

    The Syrian Virgin (REVIEW)

The Syrian Virgin, by Zack Love. CreateSpace, 2015. The Syrian Virgin, by Zack Love, is a very interesting novel. Equally a political and romantic thriller, at times a real page-turner, it gets you intimately involved in the dire situation in today’s Syria, as well as in the romantic entanglements of its mostly New York-based characters — whose entanglements just might determine the fate of that dire situation in Syria. Along the way it introduces a really important idea that somehow […]

Unpacking the Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict and Its Ripple Effect on Israel’s Region

JNS.org – Aside from Israel itself, those with a vested interest in the Jewish state are accustomed to tracking developments related to Middle East players such as Iran, Syria, Jordan and Egypt. But much global attention has recently focused on the Caucasus region at the Europe-Asia border, specifically on the suddenly intensified violence between Azerbaijan and Armenia in the mountainous Nagorno-Karabakh area of western Azerbaijan. The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, while not taking place in Israel’s immediate neighborhood, does have what one scholar called […]

JNS.org – On Friday, April 22, 196 nations across the world mark Earth Day, the annual day dedicated to environmental protection that was enacted in 1970. Not to be forgotten on this day is Israel, which is known as the “start-up nation” for its disproportionate amount of technological innovation, including in the area of protecting the environment. For Earth Day 2016, JNS.org presents a sampling of the Jewish state’s internal achievements and global contributions in the environmental realm. Water conservation Israeli […]

New Documentary Explores Holocaust Humor, Role That Laughter Played in Death Camps

Holocaust humor and the role that laughter played in the lives of Jews during World War II are the focus of a documentary that made its world premiere on Monday at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City. In The Last Laugh, first- and second-generation survivors, as well as famous Jewish and non-Jewish comedians, discuss their thoughts on when joking about the death camps is appropriate or taboo. “Nazi humor, that’s OK. Holocaust humor, no,” Jewish comedic giant, actor and filmmaker Mel Brooks says in the film. “Anything I […]

Tragedy Culminates in ‘Celebration,’ Says Israeli Author Who Lost Son to Terror

JNS.org – Sherri Mandell’s life was devastated on May 8, 2001, when her 13-year-old son Koby was murdered by terrorists on the outskirts of the Israeli Jewish community of Tekoa. Yet Mandell not only shares the story of her loss, but also celebrates the lessons she has learned from tragedy. Indeed, “celebrate” is this Israeli-American author’s word choice. Her second book, The Road to Resilience: From Chaos to Celebration (Toby Press), came out earlier this year. The lesson: in every celebration, there is […]

For Alan Gross, Cuban Prison Didn’t Harden His Heart or Weaken His Ambition

JNS.org – Alan Gross used to be nothing more to me than a tragic headline. When I started my position at this news service in July 2011, Gross had been imprisoned in Cuba since December 2009 for what that country called “crimes against the state.” Gross, a subcontractor for the United States Agency for International Development, went to Cuba to help the Jewish community there access the Internet. After his arrest, he received a trial he describes as a “B movie,” […]

JNS.org – When I saw the recent Academy Award-winning film “The Big Short,” I was struck by the sheer genius of the financiers who devised the schemes and packaged the loans for resale, but it left me with unanswered questions about how the properties these loans represented were moved. “The Big Short” was largely about paper transactions, big money, and wealthy investors, and it mildly touched on the way the actual end-users — the home buyers and brokers — played into this […]

Why do we think so negatively about psychiatrists that we still insult them by calling them shrinks? Some medics might be quacks, but we don’t generally refer to them as witches! Shrinks; The Untold Story of Psychiatry, by Dr. Jeffrey Lieberman, is a sobering account of how psychiatry has swung from a marginal, unscientific mixture of weird theories into one of the most common and pervasive forms of treatment of what are commonly called “disorders of the mind.” Is it […]
