In the ongoing peace talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority, moments of truth appear to be fast arriving. If Prime Minister Netanyahu stands by his promise to take decisions about ceding territory to a national referendum, millions of Israelis will personally be called on to decide how the Jewish state’s borders will look for their children and grandchildren.

Listening to John Kerry make the case for Israeli territorial concessions, one thing strikes me in particular. The specific incentives he articulates for Israel are mostly “sticks.” Absent are any “carrots” of substance.

Kerry makes no distinction between “peace”, and the specific “peace process” that he is promoting. He speaks of the virtues of peace, but who doesn’t want peace? It is his specific formula for reaching that hallowed destination that remains suspect.

The case against the current “peace process” is simple. The Palestinian Arabs have given Israel every reason to believe that territorial concessions will not bring peace at all. Their education system, constitutional mandates, media incitement, public monuments, multiple statements from senior officials, and Israel’s experiences with previous withdrawals all indicate that to the Palestinian Arab mind, the peace process is viewed mostly as a means to achieve the ultimate goal of Israel’s demise.

Yet Kerry has done little concrete to address these concerns and allay Israel’s fundamental fears. On Monday, the State Department declined to publicly address the issue of PA incitement and anti-Semitism, saying, “we make those discussions private.”

According to Kerry, the reasons for Israel to participate in its own dismembering, include the threats of international isolation, boycotts, a third Intifada, and the supposed “demographic threat.“ The Godfather’s “offer he can’t refuse,” immediately comes to mind.

“Force cannot defeat or defuse the demographic time bomb. The only way to secure Israel’s long term future is through negotiations,” Kerry said last month at the Saban Forum.

Kerry’s harshest threats came in an interview in early November on Israel’s Channel 2.

“The alternative to getting back to the talks is the potential of chaos,” Kerry said. “I mean, does Israel want a third Intifada?” he asked. “Israel says, ‘Oh we feel safe today, we have the wall. We’re not in a day to day conflict’,” Kerry continued. “I’ve got news for you. Today’s status quo will not be tomorrow’s…” Israel’s neighbors, he warned, will “begin to push in a different way.”

“If we do not resolve the issues between Palestinians and Israelis, if we do not find a way to find peace, there will be an increasing isolation of Israel, there will be an increasing campaign of delegitimization of Israel that’s been taking place on an international basis,” he stated.

According to a Washington Free Beacon report on a recent American Jewish Committee conference, “Secretary of State John Kerry claimed… that Israel’s failure to foster peace with the Palestinians fuels extremism and terrorism across the world.”

On Tuesday the Times of Israel reported that according to Israeli diplomatic sources, “John Kerry is behind the recent wave of European threats to boycott settlement products, and intends to use these threats against Israel should the current series of peace talks fail.”

Talk of peace comes in the form of broad unspecific platitudes, but Kerry’s warnings – should his “peace process” fail – are detailed, public, and precise. Absent a positive case for Israeli concessions, Kerry’s strategy is to artificially orchestrate a political pincer movement, and scare Israelis into accepting his proposals.

Viewed in this light and in the context of Israeli history, the choice for Israel’s citizens should be easy. The danger posed by the establishment of a hostile Palestinian Arab state in the heart of Israel by far surpasses all others. For the sake of their future generations, Israelis must simply refuse Kerry’s offer.

I am “arcaneone”. I write for Israel on the yahoo message
board. I moved my entire family–wife, kids, and cats– to
Israel, not because I thought life would be easy(it isn’t), but because that is where Zionists belong.

    We are
certainly not here to watch the country given away sliver
by sliver. If you accept that a “demographic bomb” in
favor of the “Palestinians” will within a generation end
the Zionist dream, why should the Arabs ever sign a halfway
reasonable peace treaty? Or keep the peace agreement if they do sign? They’ll get the whole thing if they just hold out a little longer,so why should they give anything up?

I’ll be in here from time to time to discuss events and
strategy. Meanwhile, why not pop over to the Yahoo board
and see what is being done?arcaneone(Israel)

    • dear sirs its all about money with americans. they want that oil. go netanyahu. grate man. Remember who kerry works for.

  • J

Netanyahu is an Israeli Rino. Talks a good fight, but always backs down. Obama is the dark side.A deal with Obama is a deal with the Devil. You will regret Israel your yielding to this wicked man.

  • Yoel Nitzarim

There is John Kerry and Barack Obama, and then there was Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama–such combinations could create apoplexy or myocardial infarction in the healthiest of Israeli prime ministers. Why? Not one of these American leaders has the slightest idea what Israel means to the United States in terms of security, democracy, and respectable Jewish values. Advice from Kerry, Obama or the former Secretary of State Clinton would definitely be like listening to the peanut gallery. Why? Where is the integrity in any one of these American leaders? Where is the statesmanship in any one of these American leaders? Where is the caring for the future of Israel’s children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren in any one of these American leaders? They all know full well what the Palestinians continue to do to undermine the State of Israel: and they don’t care one scintilla! Not one! Not a one! As a US citizen and an Israeli citizen, I can feel the razor sharp blade of Obama’s bayonet in my back! Yeah, he’s got my back! Oy vay! The influence of the Muslim Brotherhood on this Obama administration should not be underestimated. The downright brazenness of the Kerry threats of violence, illegitimacy, isolation, etc.are beyond nauseating and vile! In all honesty, I am ashamed of holding US citizenship with such ignominious leadership. Flim-flam experts, sparkling curators of inveiglement, wondrous sophists, and purveyors of probity–No! No! NO!–these US leaders have made the United States a foreign policy catastrophe. Benghazi comes to mind. Oh, as Secretary Clinton demurely posited, “That was past history already!” As a Jew allow me to quote Scrooge: “Bah, humbug”!

2Chronicles 20:12 “O our God, will You not judge them? For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but OUR EYES ARE UPON YOU.” Now all Judah with their little ones, their wives and their children, stood before the LORD. verse 15 Thus says the LORD to you; “Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but GOD’S. As Jehoshophat did by laying it down before the LORD, ay the Jewish people now do the same, Then all the nations will know that the GOD of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is in control. He never sleeps nor slumbers for His eye is on HIS chosen people. God bless Israel and I pray for the peace of Jerusalem may those who love YOU prosper. God bless the Jewish leaders with the courage to resist all the nations and put their trust in GOD. Many in the US are praying for you and as a born again Christian so am I.

So much hot air, lies and hoodwinking by somebody who should be cleaning up his own backyard of the terrorist training camps there and convincing the world that the US is not a Muslim terrorist state. The US, the UN and the EU should be tried for crimes against humanity – us Israelis, whose intimidated politicians have been wasting their time and our money to back down on promises made before their election and endanger the country’s security. When will the US, the UN and EU stop trying to ghettoize Israel? Obviously they think the Muslim terrorists will succeed in their aim of taking over the ghetto then and ridding them of their problem, which will then have just begun. Fools trying to outwit fools – that’s what it looks like to any observer with a little perspective. HASHEM yishmor. G-d will protect us, but having granted us quite a bit of Sekhel (commmon sense), I think HE is getting impatient at not seeing any evidence of it.

  • Ed Halperin

a truly isolated Israel as the last post suggests will be much more inclined to attack Iran. Isolation leads to erratic thoughts.

  • Kerry and the whole Middle East section of the State Department have to take the Kerry Quiz to get a reality check. It would be useful to a lot of Israelis as well.

A mini 5 + 1 question quiz for Secretary Kerry

“If we do not resolve the issues between Palestinians and Israelis, if we do not find a way to find peace, there will be an increasing isolation of Israel, there will be an increasing campaign of delegitimization of Israel that’s been taking place on an international basis,” he (Kerry) stated

Yes and with Kerry and Obama leading the bandwagon and with some Jewish liberals reiterating to us how wonderful a President Obama is for Israel.
OK time to get back to reality

My advice to hardline zionists is to wake up and smell the coffee. Israel is fast heading to become a Pariah state. Many in Israel hate their state’s undemocratic apartheid policies against the disfranchised Palestinians. If you zionists continue to be stubborn, you’ll come off second best. BDS South Africa, and indeed BDS around the world are racheting up the campaign against apartheid IsraHell. The noose is tightening. You say you are a religious lot,but you are far from following the teachings of the Torah (which, as a Muslim I accept and respect) that promotes equality for all.

    • mjazzguitar

Anyone who thinks that Israel is an apartheid state has been indoctrinated and doesn’t know the reality of the situation there, therefore making that person’s opinion worthless.
Muslims should know that the Koran says that Israel is for the Jews.

    • Joseph Kelly

My friend, the Jewish and Christian God has left the whole African Continent about 50 years ago. That was because Allah violently pushed out our God.

Don’t worry your little head about Israel. It will still be there when Africa regresses back to the 7th century.

  • Claudia

What could be waited of a converted hungarian jew descendent ?????? Antisemitism !!!!!
    Plus Obama a christian-muslim???????Antisemitism !!!!!

  • esther noodelman

As Natan Sharansky says,”‘You can only make peace with a democratic Palestinian Authority.”When they show they have become democratic,we deal with themSend Kerry to help them start that process.Sharansky opposed territorial concessions in advance of political reform in the Palestinian territories.

  • Frank Adam

Surely it is time to challenge Kerry and the Palestine lobby as to what have the Palestine Arabs done to try and make peace?
On precedent Kerry and Obama have reverted to the Dulles and Eisenhower disdain for Israel and accordingly all small nations thereby reversing US policy since Woodrow Wilson to support small nations rights to self determination against big bullies – in this case little Israel against the wicked imperialist Arab World which can not live in peace with itself not in Palestine and not at large.

  • Sandy Brown

It is the Mutant Ninja Turtle again! John Kerry! I do not think he has much clue about the Middle East. He keeps coming up with “solutions.” None of which are any good. These people (Kerry) who dictate policy should go and live in Israel for 6 months to see what is going on. Then they might understand it better.

Why did the US Jews vote for that Muslim Obama?
This man is going all out to destroy Israel for his fellow Muslims.

We must all pray that at the next Presidential voting, the Dems will get the hiding of their lives, and a Republican president, who is real friend of Israel, will change all that Obama and Kerry are trying to do. But the problem now, can Israel hold out while those in power can do so much more damage in the few years remaining.

    • Joel

What makes you assume there will ever be another presidential election. I wouldn’t stake my life on it. America, not just the American Jews are in for a “hiding” as you say from which they will never survive. The LORD has a way of dealing with those that curse Israel and American Jews, by voting and giving huge amounts of money for his election, have been a curse to Israel, much more than almost any identifiable group of Gentiles in America.

  • CSBG

Obama and Kerry could give Abbas the sign to attack Israel and arm them, provide intelligence, and supplies, and proceed to ignore ALL the facets constituting the US national security, and the reaction at home. They are so dangerously delusional and insular and intent on destroying Israel, it seems.

  • martin

I can’t understand why Israel continues to allow the continued bullying by Obama and Kerry..They care nothing for Israel but only want that signature achievement of bringing Israel to it’s knees.

  • Yield nothing to Kerry.

  • Dogan Akman

It all comes down to this: We have two people who are trying to make an omelette called peace by breaking only Israel’s eggs. Can’t be done.An d if they do not know this much, they are surely unfit to undertake the task at hand.
Their notion of the peace process is to make psychological war against Israel in order to get the other side to sign a a peace treaty that is not worth even the paper on which it is written.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, these two
are also inciting others to start, a 3rd intifada , to boycott, disinvest, impose punitive economic sanctions, shun, deligitimise, blackmail, while Jews in a number of countries are already being oppressed, intimidated threatened and subjected to abuse and violence countries; and at the same time trying to legitimise their mischief with self-fulfilling prophecies.

Make no mistake, these two can and may ultimately whip up anti-Semitism, far beyond what we are already witnessing, so as to create the threshold conditions liable to trigger genocidal instincts towards Jews and toward the State of Israel.

Would someone teach Obama and Kerry how to make a proper omellette before it is too late? Failing that, may G-d gift them with the kind of major crisis that will force them to turn away from the peace process and mess up something else to carry on with long tradition of messes such as; Korea, Vietnam, Cuba, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria to name just a few.

  • Herb Grossman

The whole purpose, from the first, for Kerry’s “peacemaking” has been to drive Israel out of the West Bank, with or without an agreement, knowing that the Arabs will use the strategic territory there to continue their attempt at genocide. There is no doubt that he is behind the Europeans’ renewed efforts to impose boycotts on Israel and little doubt that he and they will increase efforts to isolate Israel if it does not capitulate. Israel should hold firm, even if it economically costly. If Netanyahu had some spine, he would publicly embrace the Levy Committee report on Israel’s legal right to all of pre-war Palestine, except for the portions it has given away, Gaza, Area A in the W/B., and parts of Area B.

  • Beatrix

Every time an American gets sick and goes to the doctor, Obama wants us to remember that he was responsible for Obamacare. Obama and Kerry want to go down in the history books as the ones who achieved the impossible dream of a peace treaty between Israel and Palestine

Unfortunately, their efforts at peace are as messy and unprofessional as Obama’s attempt at universal health care. They’re like adolescents daydreaming about what they’re going to do when they grow up. But neither one has had the kind of hard life that helps him to achieve hard goals.

  • Patrick

Obama and Kerry are professional actors and read their lines from the same script. They are professional liars! Israel should know by now, you can’t negotiate with people who want to murder your children.
This world is against you, little Israel, but you don’t stand alone. Your very existence proves this to be true!

  • jay sharpe

Israel should tell kerry to stuff it, the man is a total ass, the scary part is that he is in a position far beyond his abilities, and has blinders on which only allow him to see only what he wants to see which makes him very dangerous to not only Israel but to the whole world. For the sake of every one Israel should send him packing, make it very clear that the ’67 borders are a no go, and that there is proof that the Palestinians, have made substantial changes in attitude, education, ect, that there can be no ‘peace’ If kerry thinks he can push a ‘peace’ agreement by imposing a ‘munch’ style agreement Israel needs to make him understand that it is not going to work, and kick him the hell out of the country. Remember we will be well rid of obama, and kerry after the next election.

    • Don

Your comment is so right on.

  • Cheerio

We wonder if BHusseinO is provoking Israel to take action against Iran that the US no longer can afford to take responsibility for initiating on its own. Or is he truly the hidebound Muslim occupying the Oval Office as many suspect.

    • Leon

And maybe you are correct, the tree is known by its fruit, usually

If he does not find it easy to obey your orders to bomb Syria, bomb Iran and impose new sanctions on Iran and never to condemn Israel for its human rights violations, then you find it justifiable to insult, blackmail him and spew your hateful vitriol. OMG.

    • Raymond in DC

As Obama believes in “moderate” political Islam as an alternative to Al Qaida (thus his support for the Muslim Brotherhood and its offshoots in the US), so too does he believe in “reaching out” to Iran and granting it not just a seat at the table but a partnership. Iran knows a sap and a “mark” when it sees one, and Iran is playing Obama masterfully. The end result will be Iran as both a de facto nuclear power and a regional hegemony.

  • Stuart Somerstein

Kerry will sell Israel under the bus but will allow the killing and torture in Syria and Lebenon. What a two faced piece of garbage. He betrayed his own country in Vietnam and now wants to do the same to our Jewish state. Shame on him.

  • Judy Silver-Shapiro

ISRAEL should not and cannot accept any proposal from the first muslim-born US Pres. He and his posse are singularly and collectively ANTI ISRAEL and ANTI JEWISH. The US has no so-called ‘peace’ ideas and framework other then to carve ISRAEL up more with indefensible borders that will=more deaths of JEWISH innocents.

  • Shirl in Oz

The US won’t abandon Israel for one VERY good reason. Israel is the eyes and ears of the US in the ME.

    • HaroldT

You are living in coocoo land.
The Obama/Kerry anti-semites work to destroy Israel.

    • judorebbe

“And now arose a new Pharaoh, who knew not Joseph” – Shemot (Exodus) 1:8.
Team Obama (and the power brokers of the progressive movement) will not only abandon Israel … they seek it’s destruction.

    • Raymond in DC

The US relies on Arab intelligence, from the likes of Jordan and Saudi Arabia, perhaps as much as it does on Mossad. The US also has its own eyes and ears – the X-Band radar installations in both Turkey and Israel’s Negev, not to mention the signals intelligence it conducts on Israeli communications.

That said, with someone who’s at the least a Muslim sympathizer at the head of the CIA, I can’t imagine there’s as much trust between them and the Mossad as we’d like to see. What matters is the US has a habit of ignoring the advice and recommendations that come from Israel.

  • Herb Glatter

Foreign policy emanates from the Oval Office. In light of the turmoil in Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and Turkey why is Obama fixated on Israel? Hamas rules Gaza, Abbas is the unelected “president” of the Palestinian Authority; his term in office expired 01/15/2009. The Palestinians cannot reconcile between themselves, how will they reconcile with Israel? The only reason Abbas is in Ramallah is due to the IDF. A possible scenario is Obama tries to impose a solution, Israel refuses to commit national suicide. Obama then will abandon Israel, suspending aid, abstaining in UN fora combined with the EU. A truly isolated Israel realizing its existence is on the line will attack the nuclear program in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
