Poll: 72% Say Canada Should Support Israel in War Between Jewish State and Iran
by Joshua Levitt
In a new online poll, Canada’s Sun News reported that a majority of Canadians would want the country to support Israel, in the case of a hypothetical war between the Jewish state and Iran.
The poll asked, “Should Canada contribute to Israel’s defense in the hypothetical outbreak of an armed conflict between Israel and Iran?”
Of 1,946 respondents, 72% said “yes,” 20% said “no” and 8% said, “yes, only if there is American participation.”
The poll comes as Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and a large delegation of 208 – the largest he has ever traveled with – visit Jerusalem, arriving there on Sunday.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warmly welcomed the Canadian leader, calling him a “great friend of Israel and the Jewish people.”
“This world is often cynical and hypocritical and you have shown great moral leadership,” Prime Minister Netanyahu told Harper during his welcoming remarks. “When it comes to fighting terrorism, you know that there cannot be any politically correct double talk but only unequivocal condemnation and united international action.”
