Shas Chairman Says Party Must Leave Committee on Enlistment Reform

Israel Hayom – Shas Chairman Aryeh Deri told haredi radio station Kol Barama that his party has decided it must leave the committee for military enlistment reform immediately, citing growing concerns that criminal sanctions will eventually be imposed against draft dodgers.

“I reached the conclusion that it is forbidden for us to continue sitting on the Shaked committee, and we need to get out. Things are getting worse. The truth is slowly coming out, and we’re leaving it to Habayit Hayehudi. They aren’t with us. All we’re talking about is this or that compromise, but the ultimate significance is criminal sanctions,” Deri told Kol Barama.
