Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Benny Gantz said on Sunday that for Israel there is “no front where Iran is not involved, handing out torches to pyromaniacs,” Israel’s Channel 2 reported.
The Islamic republic is also “providing its surrogates with ammunition, rockets, as well as actively participating in the fighting,” Gantz said, during a tour of the Golan Heights.
Gantz told assembled reporters that although the IDF is working ceaselessly to secure the country’s borders, regional unrest has created a volatile security situation. Iran’s meddling is the root cause of the growing tension, he said.
The IDF’s top solider explained that while, “the situation is quiet, I suggest that we all remember that behind the quiet there is a storm brewing.”
Nevertheless, Gantz’s tone was generally reassuring. He said the IDF is staying prepared by “deploying a new battalion [in the Golan] and greatly enhancing our operational capabilities along this front.” The chief of staff added that Israel’s intelligence gathering efforts along the border areas have also been improved.
Regarding the security situation in the Judea and Samaria regions, Gantz said that while tensions have been on the rise, he does not foresee the breakout of a third Intifada.
