Report: Israeli Strike Destroyed Missiles Potentially More Powerful Than All Hezbollah’s Rockets Combined

An unnamed senior Israeli security official told TIME magazine that Israel destroyed surface-to-surface missiles in a Hezbollah convoy, crossing from Syria into Lebanon on Monday, which were extremely dangerous because of their ability to carry very heavy warheads.

TIME wrote on Wednesday that the “Israeli official indicated they could carry warheads heavier and more dangerous than almost all of the tens of thousands of missiles and rockets Hezbollah now has pointed toward Israel.”

According to TIME, the strike was “the seventh known operation since the Syrian civil war began in 2011 and was an expression of Israel’s only clear policy regarding that deadly conflict: that it will not let Syria’s war become an opportunity for the militant group Hezbollah to improve its anti-Israeli arsenal.”

Israel has warned that it would strike four types of armaments coming into Lebanon: advanced air defense systems, including SA-17 batteries; highly accurate surface-to-surface missiles, such as the Iranian Fateh-110s; long-range land-to-sea missiles, similar to the Russian Yakhont hypersonic anti-ship missile; and chemical weapons. According to TIME, convoys in each of those categories have been targeted by Israel in the past year.

“Our policy is clear,” said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday, when asked about the overnight strike. “I don’t comment about what we did or didn’t do—but we will do whatever is needed to protect Israel’s security.”

As to the nighttime strike, as the convoy made its way through a mountainous, smuggler’s pass between Syria and Lebanon, the unnamed senior Israeli security official said, “They still think if they’re driving in convoy at night they can’t be seen.”

Lebanese media reported that Hezbollah terrorist Hajji Hassan Mansour, also known as Abu Haitham, who served as a field trainer, died in the strike. In a statement on its website, Hezbollah vowed revenge against Israel.

  • I will support Israel to the end of my life, I think Obama is not supportive of any thing Israel do,and specialy Kerry ,he should stay home he is a big problem,Israel is a jewish state we have to support it ,we love you .good for you for destroying the missiles of your enemies

  • Obama winning twice doesn’t mean we have a smart electorate.

  • Otto Waldmann in Sydney

The worrying reality is that our Israel is still surounded by people with weapons of mass destruction who are seriously intent on harming Israel. One hopes that Israel shall be at all times allert and capable to stave off any existential danger. From the same perspective, “elevating” Obama and his team to a similar level of perniciousness is a bit unrealistic. Your – American visceral party-political activism leaves the “distant’, but informed, observer slightly bemused.
There are lots of features at Obama which do not appeal to all, but to identify THE President of the MOST supportive POWER for Israel with Israel’s worst enemies, takes the cake, for one may not distinguish America as such from its President when it comes to such vital political issues. As Graucho said, there is nothing wrong with being American (sic) – politically partisan – , but don’t overdue it !!!

  • i am very happy reading of this past successful mission that destroyed a missile convoy from syria to lebanon…thankyou isreali intelligence and all of the forces involved….one more reason unfortunately that peace with the palestinians is a no-no…no matter what john kerry or obama say and or dictate….remember never never again….if you want peace then buy yourself a piece of apple pie….thankyou michael wyatt

  • And just as dangerous is the threat to European Jews from EU anti-Semitism.

  • Numbers 10:35

  • the headline is incorrect, these missiles are more powerful than the thousands that hezbollah already has, and possibly more dangerous (in terms of payload, range and accuracy), but NOT “more powerful than all hezbollah’s rockets combined”. there isn’t a convoy big enough…

try sticking to the news, and leave the hyperbole to the politicians.

  • israel ,i love you! you are the holy land, the promise land and the land of God itself!! every nation on this earth, beware! i am against Killing other people,i think the arabs have their rights as every men in this world i love them too besides we are brothers! no matter the color or skin or nationality but israel have the rights to protect itself and its not a treath to arab world unfortunately they are for israel…but God is protecting this country and its future is so bright!! shalom!

  • Klara KoÅ‚odziejska

I stand with Israel and IDF.

    Klara from Poland

Its about time. History has repeatdly shown us that fear works better and longer than love.
The more they fear Israel, the safer it is.

  • Malcolm Jackson

Well done and thank you Israel. You are defending us all against these evil people.

  • Dear Israel,

Please understand that 80% of the American people DO NOT agree with the Kenyan, Obama the Poser…

The vast majority of Americans support Israel. As a Christian nation, we understand that God commands us to love and support Israel, and we do.

We pray for your nation, and we hope that the next American president will fully support Israel.

God has His agenda, and He will bring destruction on the enemies of His people.

    Shalom!
    Leon

    • Thank you so much. On behalf of me and my family and friends in Israel, your support provides light.R

    • Sweet of you, Leon, and the sentiment is appreciated. But still, more than half of you voted him in a *second* time…

      • Shaul — Well said. It is those shameful Americans who voted to RE-ELECT obama that are ignorant and have cursed America!

        • Cursed they are too. Look at the weather patterns bring snow and ice, shutting down cities worsening an already broken economy. Looks like I’m here till the end

      • Adolphus Leopanzus

Keep in mind that a large portion of Jewish votes unfortunately went to him, so that should be a concern that needs to be addressed.

Either way, though, the ‘war’ on the public through media influence, direction and control is taking a toll on the average voter’s ability to be intelligent at the polls.

    • Leon,

I would reply to your post in greater detail, but I am due back on planet Earth.

    • The second and third lines appear to be imagery which combines vindictive animosity with racist views. If your so-called “80 of the American people” do not agree with the president, isn’t it strange that he won in TWO – get it, TWO- presidential elections. Your ignorance is amazing! If President Obama were Kenyan, he COULD NOT POSSIBLY be PRESIDENT! Another item:While America is composed of a Christian majority,it is NOT a Christian nation.

      • have you seen what Obama is planning for July/14.
Obama is definitely NOT a friend of Israel and the person he has sent to make peace Johb Kerry really doesnt know what he is doing. To keep asking Israel again and again to give up land and never to ask anything of the palestinians is the most dangerous thing possible. last thing I read is that he thinks Israel should go back to the 1948 lines. Is he kidding? Maybe he should have Russia and China at the borders of the United States–would be about the same as what he is proposing. What he is doing is wasting time and making stupd comments about a 3rd intifata (talk about threats) if israel doesnt do what he wants them to do. Shame, shame on John Kerry- the best friends of the palestinians.

    • It always amazes me that some ‘ christians’ ‘in America compound politics with faith in Christ. Also Judaism strongly rejects christianity. I prefer not to live in my own ‘reality’..but deal with the World as it is and keep my faith seperate from the powers of the political sphere.

    • Amen,amen,amen!
The people in the US who side with the Palestinians and the rest of their ilk are woefully misguided. Many Americans side with Israel, even though it often means we are also persecuted. I will support Israel until the day I die.

  • WE SHOULD NOT UNDERESTIMATE HEBOLLAH. WE (ISRAEL) MUST CONTINUE TO BE VIGILANT. ALL THE ENEMY NEEDS IS ONE LUCKY HIT. WE NEED NO TO REJOICE TOO MUCH, EVEN THOUGH IT IS ADAR.

  • Thank you, Joshua, for this report! Kol ha kavod to the IDF and thank you to the IDF’s “Commander-in-Chief,” (the L-rd who never sleeps)…thank you!

  • My Planet Israel

What a frightening prospect to have to be on too of constantly. When will the world finally come down on these prejudice, hate filled war mongers? It’s gone on for too long. Something has to crush the spine of these
    Monsters once and for all.

  • They vowed revenge, What a joke, they are involved in revenge every moment. They hate the Jews.

  • makes me happy

  • Jesus is about to show everyone.

    • instead of obsessing about a jew who has been dead 2,000 years, why don’t you show your love for his jewish brethren who are still alive today?

  • That is fantastic. If the ignorant people dont know the end game, they are about to find out. They will never distroy the jewish state.never!

  • Victoria D Matlock

    Wow if true wow

  • Oh no. Hezbollah vowed revenge. What a shame to provoke such formerly peaceful people. Vicious animals.
So grateful the people of Israel have, not the largest, but the greatest and smartest military on the planet.

  • Salomon Mizrahi

And what to do for neutralizing the other 50 thousand or more “less lethal” missiles? They are scattering in a very large area…

    • Make Hezbollah believe the truth, that it is not worth the loss of their lives, even with the prospect of 72 virgins, in trying to destroy Israel.Turning the terrorists’ mindset around to peace is a much harder problem.

  • Robert Feldman

The time has come for Israel to END Hezbollah with strikes that will put an end to that Evil Serpent of Hate and Killing. Tit for Tat, doesn’t work with Devil.

    • when dealing with snakes, you concentrate on the head – fiddling with the tail will only get you bitten.

the head is in tehran, and nothing short of a regime change will persuade them to change their ways.

      • The zionist are cursed by God in the bible and the Quraan. The current Butchers of Women and children are being hated the world over, everyone sees their lust for blood, but God has a plan for them in the not to distant future. The game plan is changing, and the Invaders enemies are getting stronger and more sophisticated. It is only a matter of time before their hour cometh.

  • Thank G-d! Wonderful news!

Graves of Jewish Pirates in Jamaica Give Caribbean Tourists Taste of Little-Known History

Tour operators are calling attention to Jamaica’s little-known Jewish heritage by arranging visits to historic Jewish sites on the Caribbean island, including a cemetery where Jewish pirates are buried. A report in Travel and Leisure magazine describes the Hunts Bay Cemetery in Kingston, where there are seven tombstones engraved with Hebrew benedictions and skull and crossbones insignia. According to the report, centuries ago, Jewish pirates sailed the waters of Jamaica and settled in Port Royal. The town, once known as “the wickedest city in the […]

Filmmaker Eyal Resh Embraces the Challenge of Telling Israel’s Story (VIDEO)

JNS.org – Telling Israel’s story. It’s the specific title of a short film that Eyal Resh created last year. It’s also the theme behind the 27-year-old Israeli filmmaker’s broader body of work. The widely viewed “Telling Israel’s Story” film—directed by Resh for a gala event hosted by the Times of Israel online news outlet—seemingly begins as a promotional tourism video, but quickly evolves to offer a multilayered perspective. “I want to tell you a story about a special place for me,” a young woman whispers […]

JNS.org – The entrance to Jerusalem’s Sacher Park was transformed from April 25-27 by a fire-breathing robotic dragon, which flailed its arms and attempted to take flight. The robot, a signature feature at Jerusalem’s first-ever “Geek Picnic,” was one of more than 150 scientific amusements available for the public to experience. This particular dragon was designed by students from Moscow’s Art Industrial Institute in conjunction with the Flacon design factory, said Anatasia Shaminer, a student who helped facilitate the display. The Syrian Virgin (REVIEW)

The Syrian Virgin, by Zack Love. CreateSpace, 2015. The Syrian Virgin, by Zack Love, is a very interesting novel. Equally a political and romantic thriller, at times a real page-turner, it gets you intimately involved in the dire situation in today’s Syria, as well as in the romantic entanglements of its mostly New York-based characters — whose entanglements just might determine the fate of that dire situation in Syria. Along the way it introduces a really important idea that somehow […]

Unpacking the Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict and Its Ripple Effect on Israel’s Region

JNS.org – Aside from Israel itself, those with a vested interest in the Jewish state are accustomed to tracking developments related to Middle East players such as Iran, Syria, Jordan and Egypt. But much global attention has recently focused on the Caucasus region at the Europe-Asia border, specifically on the suddenly intensified violence between Azerbaijan and Armenia in the mountainous Nagorno-Karabakh area of western Azerbaijan. The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, while not taking place in Israel’s immediate neighborhood, does have what one scholar called […]

New Documentary Explores Holocaust Humor, Role That Laughter Played in Death Camps

Holocaust humor and the role that laughter played in the lives of Jews during World War II are the focus of a documentary that made its world premiere on Monday at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City. In The Last Laugh, first- and second-generation survivors, as well as famous Jewish and non-Jewish comedians, discuss their thoughts on when joking about the death camps is appropriate or taboo. “Nazi humor, that’s OK. Holocaust humor, no,” Jewish comedic giant, actor and filmmaker Mel Brooks says in the film. “Anything I […]

Tragedy Culminates in ‘Celebration,’ Says Israeli Author Who Lost Son to Terror

JNS.org – Sherri Mandell’s life was devastated on May 8, 2001, when her 13-year-old son Koby was murdered by terrorists on the outskirts of the Israeli Jewish community of Tekoa. Yet Mandell not only shares the story of her loss, but also celebrates the lessons she has learned from tragedy. Indeed, “celebrate” is this Israeli-American author’s word choice. Her second book, The Road to Resilience: From Chaos to Celebration (Toby Press), came out earlier this year. The lesson: in every celebration, there is […]
