by Joshua Levitt
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday was in Silicon Valley to promote investments in the Israeli technology industry, his communications office said Thursday in a statement.
Netanyahu was briefed on tech giant Apple’s operations in Israel, where the company has been present for two and a half years, by Apple CEO Tim Cook and other members of management. Netanyahu invited Cook to visit Israel and proposed that Apple begin activity at the national cyber park in Be’er Sheva.
Netanyahu also met Jan Koum and Brian Acton, the founders of WhatsApp, a cellphone messaging platform that sold for $19 billion to Facebook last month. With the entrepreneurs, Netanyahu discussed cyber protection technologies that have been developed in Israel.
