Footage of 2.5 Kilometer Hamas Terror Tunnel Released (VIDEO)
by Joshua Levitt
Footage was released by the Israel Defense Forces to Israel’s Channel 2 of the 2.5 kilometer cement tunnel built by Hamas forces in Gaza over the past six months connecting Khan Yunis with Southern Israel.
Last week, Israel Defense Forces Major General Sammy Turgeman said, “Hamas invests in tunnels instead of the welfare of the people of Gaza.”
According to the IDF, the tunnel is located just a few hundreds meters from the Israeli border. It runs 8-9 meters (26-30 feet) deep in some parts and 20 meters (66 feet) deep in others. Fresh foot and tire tracks were found in the area, as well as tools and generators, suggesting that is had been visited recently by those digging the tunnel. A military source said all signs indicated that the tunnel was to be used as part of a “quality terror attack.”
“This advanced tunnel was intended to pose a direct link and threat to Israeli territory, and enable Hamas terrorists to reach and harm Israeli civilians,” IDF Lt. Col. Peter Lerner said in a statement at the time.
The footage of the tunnel was flagged on Thursday by blogger Elder of Ziyon, who wrote, “Israel’s Channel 2 shows video of the tunnel, all built with that concrete that we are told is in such shortage in Gaza.”
