A Passover themed cover of hit songs Let It Go and Do You Want to Build a Snowman? from Disney’s Frozen has attracted tons of media buzz and a cool 65,ooo views on YouTube within days of going online.
The work of Jewish a capella group Six13, the track is aptly named Chozen.
We are celebrating “our freedom, our favorite festival, our fabulous fans, and aspiring Disney princesses everywhere” the group said.
The Chozen music video tells the story of Passover and explains the traditions involved in celebrating the holiday. It’s lyrics include, “Do You Want Some Afikomen? It’s just unleavened bread.”
“We do a lot of different stuff, a lot of original music… but every once in a while we like to put out something that’s kind of mainstream and people can really sink their teeth into,” Six13 director Mike Boxer told The Algemeiner on Wednesday. “And we were looking at stuff and going ‘What’s more wholesome and popular right now than this particular tune,’ so we decided we should put our own spin on it.”
Six13 filmed the video for Chozen over the course of a week or so in New York, according to Boxer.
“Let them go, Pharaoh, say the word and we’re out the door,” the group sings in the song. “This nightmare needs to end today. Let the tribe march on, we won’t let the water stand in our way.”
A six-man vocal band based out of New York, Six13 has performed around the world and took to stages in Berlin and Israel last year.
