JNS.org A J Street-affiliated student leader reportedly verbally accosted Daniel Mael, a pro-Israel activist who attends Brandeis University.

Citing witnesses of the incident, the Washington Free Beacon reported that Talia Lepson, a board member of J Street U (the self-labeled “pro-Israel, pro-peace” lobby’s campus arm) at Brandeis, on Friday night called Mael a “s*** bag” and told him “Jews hate you.”

“I don’t feel comfortable on campus knowing people will lob verbal insults at me simply because we disagree,” Mael said.

The incident comes ahead of an April 30 vote on J Street’s application to join the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations. The vote is being perceived as a litmus test for whether or not the mainstream pro-Israel community accepts J Street’s views as part of its so-called “big tent.”

After the Palestinian unity deal between Fatah and the terrorist group Hamas was signed last week, J Street urged the U.S. “to press forward with an even more assertive effort to forge a two-state solution” to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. J Street also called Israel’s decision to pull out of peace talks over the unity deal “premature.”
