A newly engaged Chasidic couple from Brooklyn found each other thanks to a “very friendly” neighborhood UPS delivery man, local blogs reported.

The bride’s mother said the experience has taught her to be open to unexpected possibilities when it comes to matchmaking.

“Finding shidduchim (suitors) for children is not easy and you never know where it could come from. We have to open our eyes and ears to suggestions,” Crown Heights native Regina Simon told The Algemiener.

For the past two years, when stopping by the National Committee for Furtherance of Jewish Education offices where Simon works, UPS staffer Terry Spiers had been telling her that he knows a “good boy” named Zev Goldin for one of her daughters, she explained.

For years Spiers has also been making deliveries to the Eastern Parkway home of the Goldin family, just one block over from where Simon works.

“He use to suggest [Goldin] for another daughter of mine,” Simon told The Algeminer. “I never took that seriously. That was a year and a half ago… He would say, ‘I have a good boy for you and for your daughter.'”

After that daughter married someone else, she suggested her mother take action and inquire about Goldin for her sister Chana, who was still single at the time.

“She just brought up the name, and then I said, ‘Oh is that a real person?'” Regina said. “I said, ‘I’ve heard his name so many times from Terry.’ I said, ‘OK, I’ll see Terry on Monday, I’ll ask him about it.'”

The next time she saw Spiers, Regina asked about the Goldin boy. Spiers said that he was headed to their house  and that he would “talk to them.”

The Goldins told him they knew of the Simons and that they were interested in pursuing the idea. At that point Shloimy Simon, Chana’s uncle and a local matchmaker, got involved. “But it was Terry who was the shadchan (matchmaker),” Zev told local blog CrownHeights.info.

Goldin and Simon celebrated their engagement last week at Crown Heights’s Lubavitcher Yeshiva social hall and Spiers was present at the event. When he arrived, dressed in a white shirt and suit, the engaged couple greeted him jovially and simply said, “Thank you,” Col Live reported.
