Since midnight, approximately 131 rockets and mortars were fired at Israel, out of which at least 108 hit Israel and 17 were intercepted. As part of the ongoing efforts to contend with the vast underground Gaza terror network, the IDF is continuing operations within the Gaza to prevent terror attacks on the Israeli home front.

Below are some of the incidents that took place as part of these efforts in the past 24 hours:

·         Last night, two terrorists opened fire at IDF soldiers who immediately responded, killing the terrorists.

·         In a separate occasion, IDF soldiers were attacked by terrorists emerging from a tunnel opening concealed within a house. The forces responded, killing the terrorists.

·         Later that night, IDF soldiers engaged and killed 10 terrorists who emerged from a tunnel access point located within a mosque.

·         IDF forces identified a terrorist emerging from a tunnel, opened fire, and identified a hit.

·         Early morning today, IDF soldiers were caught in an exchange of fire with three terrorists in the Gaza Strip. Two of the terrorists were killed.

·         This morning an IDF special force unit engaged and killed a female suicide bomber who was wearing an explosive belt.

Since the beginning of the operation the IDF has uncovered 45 access shafts to 16 tunnels, some of which located within residences and mosques.

Since the ground phase of operation Protective Edge commenced, the IDF thwarted about 170 terrorists.

Since the beginning of the operation, the IDF targeted some 2,800 terror targets across the Gaza Strip, in a combined effort of ground, air and naval forces.

PREAMBLE: 9:05 am – Early on Tuesday July 8th Israel launched Operation Protective Edge aimed at stopping “the constant terror activity that Hamas is aiming at Israeli civilians.” The major Gaza initiative comes in response to a significant increase in rocket attacks from the coastal enclave over the past weeks.

Since the start of the initiative Israel has targeted over 2300 terror sites and has seen over 2000 rockets fired from Gaza at Israeli cities including Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Gedera. More than 6 million Israelis are under threat of rocket attacks and many are spending the nights in bomb shelters. Over 400 deaths have been reported in Gaza and 25 Israeli soldiers have been killed and well as one civilian.

This Tuesday, while Israel accepted an Egyptian proposed ceasefire, Hamas rejected it and fired volleys of rockets into Israel.

Late on Thursday night the IDF launched an extensive ground offensive in Gaza.
