Israel and the Jewish People Don’t Need the World’s Permission to Survive

It is easy for me, as someone who does not live in Israel, to tell the Israeli military what to do. But as someone who was educated in the Jabotinsky movement all my life, I know what the ideology of our movement would demand. I can’t imagine Jabotinsky accepting a “ceasefire” with a terrorist organization.

It is easy for me as an American Jew whose children don’t serve in the IDF to speak of the importance of fighting terrorists, when others send their kids to fight. But as a Jew, I know that Jewish history is written in blood and that Israel exists because of the fighting spirit of our people.

It is easy for me, living on the Upper West Side, working at a public relations agency in Times Square, when rockets aren’t flying over my head and sirens ringing in my ears, to say that a ceasefire shouldn’t happen until terrorists are crushed. But, as an American, I don’t believe that even the feeble President Barack Obama would have accepted a ceasefire on September 11, 2001.

Hamas is an organization devoted to destroying Israel. They won’t stop fighting and don’t care how many – on their side or ours – die.

And while the world rants and raves when Israel dares to fight back, the world is quiet about Ukraine, 150,000 dead Syrians, the occupation of Cyprus by the Turks, and everything else. There are no marches in cities around the world, and no emergency missions by countless world leaders.

This most recent flareup shows just so clearly that this isn’t a battle over whether Israel is right or wrong. Its just so painfully apparent that quite simply, in the eyes of the world, the Jews are always wrong.

And if someone is concerned about the so called “cycle of violence,” then they should march equally to demand an end to U.S. drone strikes, and to America pursuing Al Qaeda and other enemies. In fact, perhaps there should be no more militaries anywhere in the world. But these moral hypocrites want to force Israel to accept a “ceasefire” with an enemy that kills and wants to kill. There is not much more to be said.

Israel and Jewish leaders need to worry about the Jewish people, and not about world opinion. The State of Israel would not exist if it were up to the world. Six million Jews were wiped out in our century.

Israel and the Jewish people need no one’s permission to live.
