Hamas Spokesman Osama Hamdan, speaking on CNN on Monday, refused to refute his recent claim that Jews bake Christian blood into Passover matzo crackers.

“We all remember how the Jews used to slaughter Christians in order to mix their blood in their holy matzos,” Hamdan told an interviewer on Lebanon’s Al-Quds television in a program that aired on July 28.

“This is not a figment of imagination or something taken from a film,” Hamdan said, alleging that, in the context of fighting in Gaza, “the Israelis concentrate on killing children.”

In fact, however, Israeli and international observers, including from the United Nations, have shown time and time again, and during repeated conflicts, that Hamas exploits children as human shields against Israeli military strikes, and used children to dig its tunnels, killing 160 underage laborers.

In the CNN interview, Hamdan alleged that Knesset Member Moshe Feiglin was calling for a genocide against Palestinians, and misquoted Feiglin, using the term “concentration camp” instead of the term “tent camp.”

But when confronted by Wolf Blitzer on his promotion of the classic medieval blood libel to the Arab-speaking audience, Hamdan went for broke and spluttered that he himself had Jewish friends.

“I have Jewish friends who are supporting the Palestinians’ rights, there are rabbis supporting the Palestinians’ rights and they are our friends and they are against the new Nazis…”

To refresh Hamdan’s memory – and against his on-air protestations – Blitzer replayed the clip, and then asked, “So, do you believe Jews used to slaughter Christians to bake matzos?”

The Islamist spokesman shot back, “you have to ask the Church…” and went on to imply that his words were twisted “by the Israelis,” who he alleged took his words out of context for propaganda purposes against the Palestinians.

In closing the interview, Blitzer said he’d hoped “to get a flat denial from you, that you would utter such ridiculous words, that Jews would kill Christians in order to use their blood…”

Which Hamdan obsfucated, and did not deliver.
