In a propaganda video posted to YouTube on Wednesday, Hamas showed the process behind the construction of long-range M-75 rockets.
Footage aired on the Hamas-affiliated al-Aqsa TV channel showed what was said to be scenes of rocket manufacturing shops in Gaza.
“The continuation of the production of rockets during the fighting is a message we give to our allies and enemies,” Hamas Spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri boasted in response to the broadcast.
“Your futile leadership claimed they destroyed our missile potency, but our manufacturers continue to produce missiles and send them to the field,” one manufacturing crew member says in the clip.
During the IDF’s Operation Protective Edge, and 2012’s Operation Pillar of Defense, both aimed at thwarting rocket attacks, Hamas succeeded in firing dozens of the projectile sat Tel Aviv, the densely-populated Gush Dan area, and at Jerusalem and the capital’s environs.
Hamas had originally received the heavier rockets from Iran, but the video may be an attempt by Hamas to show its independence from Teheran, and impress its own population with its purportedly unharmed armament-making capabilities.
Following are segments of the clip, as translated by MEMRI:
Hamas spokesman Abu Obeida: “[Israeli Defense Minister] Yaalon threatens us with a ground offensive. We say to him: You are threatening us with something we are anticipating, you son of a Jew?”
Reporter: “When the Al-Qassam Brigades say something, they mean it. On the twelfth day of the ongoing aggression against Gaza, the icon of the war, [spokesman] Abu Obeida, made the following statement:”
Abu Obeida: “The enemy should know that we have already compensated for the equipment and ammunition we lost in the war.”
Reporter: “The surprises offered by the Al-Qassam Brigades were not restricted to the tunnels presented by Al-Aqsa TV and Al-Jazeera TV and did not end with the capturing of soldiers. They go far beyond that.”
Sign reads: “Despite the aggression, production continues – from the workshops to the battlefield, August 7, 2014”
Reporter: “On August 7, when the Zionist military forces were attacking Gaza from air, land, and sea, the Al-Qassam Brigades were launching strikes against Tel Aviv and Haifa, as well as neighboring towns in occupied Palestine.”
“Others continue to produce additional rockets, capable of striking deep into Zionist territory with the utmost precision. These rockets replenish the shortage stemming from the daily launchings.”
