Ontario Student Federation Votes to Boycott Israel

JNS.org – The Ontario branch of the Canadian Federation of Students, which represents more than 300,000 students in the Canadian province, has voted unanimously to support the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel.
According to executive member of the student federation Anna Goldfinch, the motion to join the BDS movement “endorses a number of solidarity tactics that have been called for by Palestinian civil society,” the Globe and Mail reported.
The anti-Israel resolution was put forward by the Ryerson University Students’ Union, whose president, Rajean Hoilett, said he is calling on schools throughout Ontario to not “remain complicit” with academic institutions and businesses who support “Israeli war crimes.”
Ontario has been at the center of the BDS movement for a number of years. The annual BDS-sponsored “Israeli Apartheid Week” began in Toronto in 2005.
