Comedian Sarah Silverman poked fun at Chasidic Jews and their choice of garb during her opening monologue as a first time host of Saturday Night Live this week.
“Tonight is the end of the Jewish holiday Yom Kippur and I want to take the opportunity to tell all the Hasidic Jews out there that I promise you, God will not mind if you wear a nice cotton-blend in the summer, you are being ridiculous,” Silverman, who is Jewish, said.
Silverman has cracked numerous Jewish jokes in the past and even thanked “my Jews” in her acceptance speech at the 2014 Emmy Awards. She has also shown support for Israel’s right to defend itself against Hamas, signing a statement that unequivocally condemned the terrorist group and “ideologies of hatred and genocide which are reflected in [their] charter.”
