New York City Councilman David Greenfield fiercely denounced a group of antisemitic pro-Palestinian demonstrators who disrupted a Council meeting today, at the exact time that a resolution commemorating the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz was being discussed.

Moments after the demonstrators were escorted from the chamber by security guards, Greenfield, the grandchild of Holocaust survivors, began a speech that rapidly evolved into an impassioned discourse on the overlap between hatred of Israel and hatred of Jews.

“While we were discussing a resolution regarding the murder of 1.1 million human beings – I will point out that 90 percent of them were Jewish, but the other 10 percent, they were political dissidents, they were Jehovah’s Witnesses, they were gays, those were the people who were being killed together at Auschwitz-Birkenau,” Greenfield declared, “while we were discussing that, they had the chutzpah, the nerve, the temerity, to unfurl a Palestinian flag and yell at us.”

Voice rising, Greenfield contrasted Israel’s open society with the repressive regimes across the Middle East, before asserting, “What you saw here today was naked, blind antisemitism.”

Greenfield said that the demonstrators had unfurled the Palestinian flag out of anger that “Hitler had not finished the job. He only wiped out half of my family.”

He concluded: “Shame on them for disrespecting the most diverse democratically elected body in the United States of America, and that’s why we go to Israel.”

The demonstrators immediate target was the trip to Israel which Councilman Greenfield referred to, planned for next year, and involving City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito and 14 other Council members. Footage of the demonstrators showed them in a state of collective hysteria, showering abuse and hatred upon the council’s members. (See video below.)

Other councillors joined Greenfield in condemning the antisemitic disruption, which included the fringe group “Jewish Voice for Peace” among the participants. “City Council protesters today were so hate-filled and venomous that they strengthened our support for Israel, ONLY democracy in Middle east,” tweeted Councilman Mark D. Levine. Councilman Cory Johnson called the demonstration “incredibly disrespectful and offensive. Simply awful.”

Republican Councilman Eric Ulrich told the meeting that “to be pro Israel you don’t have to be Jewish. Israel is a vibrant democracy and I’m proud to go back to Israel again. I will not be intimidated by the hecklers. I will not sit here and allow people to attack the Jews.”

Why do the so called refugees who are going into Europe not go to Russia?

  • When I was growing up in the USA in the 1950’s and ’60s, Arabs were people who lived in parts of Asia and North Africa. Mosques were unknown in most of the USA. Where did America’s present four to five million Muslims come from? 800,000 Jews had been pushed out of Arab countries beginning in 1948; up until today Christians are persecuted in Arab Muslim countries. People who leave Islam to become Christian can be executed in the Arab world, as can people with an ‘alternative life style’. How did homeland security let so many anti-democratic people into our country. Who is watching our borders?

    • Nita Singh

      what a devious hypocrite

he’s okay ignoring the massacre and abuse of thousands of Palestinians which he uses Auschwitz to justify – but you’re not allowed to protest this Auschwitz obsession which is the excuse for bombing and terrorising so many real semites in Palestine – BS

then he starts screaming about Hitler – the gentiles are not stupid unfortunately for you – we are waking up to this messianic cult agenda and have read your unholy books and we will not tolerate this primitive uncivilised and barbaric cult for much longer – it is not acceptable to assault an 8 day old baby you psychos

yesterday another holocaust survivor claimed she survived 3 “death” camps, escaped a gas chamber, shared barracks with Anne Frank and survived experimentation with Mengele – this is pure hate speech against Germans and I for one am sick of it and we wont tolerate this behaviour –

Israel is the only place in the East where gays are flaunting themselves in thongs and kissing in public and they give children to gays – nothing holy about it – they’re a bunch of warmongering perverts

        1. Crimes against humanity charged against Palestine by the Palestinian Ambassador to the UN Council on Human Rights:

“The Palestinian Ambassador to the U.N. Human Rights Council, Ibrahim Khraishi admitted on a live television interview recently, in a moment of extreme candor, that Hamas are the ones perpetrating war crimes against Israel and not the other way round…”

“In his own words, “each and every” Palestinian missile fired on Israel constitutes “a crime against humanity,” while he admitted that Israel “followed the legal procedures” when carrying out retaliatory attacks against Hamas terrorists, who purposely embed themselves within civilian populations.”

“Even a Hamas spokesman admitted on a TV interview recently that: “The Israelis warned them to evacuate their homes before the bombardment. As for the missiles launched from our side, we never warn anyone about where these missiles are about to fall or about the operations we carry out.” U.N. Watch, an NGO body that monitors the U.N., reported that Ambassador Ibrahim Khraishi wasn’t coy in his assertions of Palestinian war crimes. As he said himself:

Why does the world not know the truth about how the Palestinians control the news? Here’s why–they deport any journalists who report anything negative about Palestine or their conduct during the latest war, especially their conduct regarding Hamas repeatedly using human shields:Winning the battle, losing the warAug 17th 2014, 23:52
Since journalists who would like to report what actually goes on in Gaza have been banned, we are receiving a highly filtered idea of whether or not Hamas is still favored among its suffering this on deportation of journalists who reported on launches from civilian areas:
Hamas has all the weapons and controls many, many jobs. To counter them is sure death. Not unlike the Nazi regime.

      • Dante

        1. The “massacre and abuse of thousands of Palestinians” was by no means deliberate killing of Palestinians because they were Palestinians but simply war – war against Hamas who had launched rockets for months before and built tunnels to commit terror attacks, placing civilians near the rocket bases to force IDF to either spare the rocket bases or kill civilians. Hamas spokesmen did admit this.
        2. As a German, I assure you that telling the story of surviving death camps is not hate speach against my people but calling it so is spitting into Holocaust survivors’ face.

The rest of your post is exactly what the article’s title tells.

      • Dan Stephens

Your mind has been blinded with hatred. Jesus is the only One who can set you free and save you. Ask Him with a sincere heart and He will answer.

  • Israel should give the Palestians more land–two feet down so the vultures have something to eat. After all, vultures have to live also.

  • Heinrich

There’s no business like $hoah business. This hymie is still trying to make a shekel out of it.

    • Dante

The very first who made “a shekel”, rather some million Reichsmark from the Shoah were the Nazis themselves. The Shoah was the greatest holdup murder in history, and the Nazis themselves showed any of the negative attitudes which they had ascribed to the Jews, including cowardness and avarity.

    • Linda Sobel

To Heinrich- Shame on You for your ignorance. Best to keep it to yourself, your anti-semitism is showing. Germany is shamed for all history for the actions of the Nazi’s and those who supported them. You should be too.

  • Roger Mendelson

What an amazing speakers? To speak so fluidly, with no notice, no notes,no preparation and with such conviction and in a logical ,powerful sequence . I have played it several times. Reasoned logic against the yelling of the anti Semitic mob of just minutes before.

  • Paul Rainwater

Thank You David Greenfield for speaking the Truth about human rights in the middle east, YOU ARE DA MAN! I stand with Israel!

  • Robert Davis

“Jewish voice for peace” should call itself Jewish LIARS for peace and another holocaust! These people cannot be so stupid as to think giving Western Palestine to arabs who have of course no Historical links with Palestine nor legal rights to it would bring…peace! They do not want peace for Israel but another holocaust for Jewish Israelis! These people are more criminals than fools.

    • Amy Lambert

For those who still dream that the Palestinians wish anything but Israel’s total “obliteration”, you have only to read the Covenant of Hamas, which calls in its second paragraph for Israel’s obliteration at the hands of Islam, in its Article Six for every inch of Israel to become under Sharia law, in Article Eleven for no setting aside of any amount of the land stolen by the Muslims during the Muslim Conquest (i.e., no partition is acceptable); and article Thirteen, which says that jihad is the only solution and as for negotiation–forget about it. Read these sections here:

As for the Jewish “occupation” of Gaza, that ended with a complete pullback. The blockade only came into existence after Hamas came to power calling for Israel’s destruction (see above); there was no blockade when there was no Hamas. Gaza has been occupied since the war in ’48, by Egypt. In 1967,the Egyptians gathered together the armies of the other Arab states and threatened Israel’s destruction.”We will not accept any … coexistence with Israel. … “Today the issue is not the establishment of peace between the Arab states and Israel …. The war with Israel is in effect since 1948.” – Nasser, May 28, 1967″. Israel won that war, and has since occupied Gaza because Egypt didn’t want it back.

Jordan also entered that war: “The armies of Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon are poised on the borders of Israel . . . . to face the challenge, while standing behind us are the armies of Iraq, Algeria, Kuwait, Sudan and the whole Arab nation. This act will astound the world. Today they will know that the Arabs are arranged for battle, the critical hour has arrived. We have reached the stage of serious action and not declarations.” – Nasser, May, 30, 1967 after signing a defense pact with Jordan’s King Hussein. Jordan had occupied the West Bank since 1948. She, too, lost her occupation to the Israelis in the war Jordan and Egypt wanted and Israel did not.

Today we learn in the news that the Sinai, which Israel gave to Egypt in exchange for peace (remember land for peace?) is in turmoil and peace is not assured unless Al-Sisi’s army can regain control. Gaza is certainly not for peace and co-existence, although the Israelis thought they would get peace in exchange for that land.

There is no peace because the Arab states and the occupied territories never have wanted and will never accept an infidel on even on inch of the Muslim land trust known as a “Waqf” (read Article Eleven). The terms of the trust, FYI, are that the people on the land do not own the land. The trust owns the land, forever, for Muslims only.

Consider for a moment how the Musims got this land: it was through the efforts of the Muslim armies. Peaceful peoples living on these lands before the 7th Century were driven out by these armed Muslim hordes, people including Christians, Jews and Druze. It was their land until the advent of Islam, after which it was stolen in the largest pre-modern land grab up to its time.

  • Monty Lasovsky

…and all this vomiitous anti Semitism in the “Land of the free” is mind blowing. I bet the President of the US was pleased to witness the video clip tha i just did. This will give him even more reason not to meet with Netenyahu next month. This is a President who is hell bent to “throw Israel uner the bus” and has probably done it by his anti semitic stance in relation to the Isreali Prime Minister who he obviously despises. Not suprising really. He has been heard on the air talking to Sarkozy agreeing with him that he “has to deal with im all day”. Obama body language (feet on the desk”) when with Bib i says it all!.
The Lefists in the world particularly among the `jews will endanger the world.
Concentrate on the REAL enemy…..the ~Palestinians who broke into the chamber who represent an afront to the civilised peoples of the world who only know how to destroy rather than build a bettetr world.

  • I’m thankful for NY Councilman David Greenfield’s speech at the City Council. The ring of truth seldom sounds more genuine. I’m thankful for him.

  • Julie C Caruso

If only we had a president who would utter these words! Well said Sir!

  • aall55

there should not be anti-israel arabs at the knesset , enough with these people.

  • Jewish Voice for Peace are traitors. They don’t want peace they want to see Israel destroyed.

  • David M

The Nazi fascists did the same things in Germany in their rise to power. Today we have Islamofascism, its “grandson”, carrying on the “great traditions” of its Nazi progenitors.

The anti-Semitism in Europe is spilling over its banks. The seeds were set in the Arab countries when Hitler brought the virulent anti-Semitic Grand Mufti of Jerusalem into his circle of favorites in the 30’s. The Grand Mufti Husseini intended to conquer Palestine for the sole purpose of killing all the Jews living there. It never happened. But the virus inoculated by Hitler hibernated among the Arabs/Islamists to this day.

It is running rampant through the Middle East and into Muslim lands like Pakistan. We lack leadership to guide us through this turbulence. If European countries become Islamicized, which is a high risk possibility today, then the virus could infect the West.

  • There’s isn’t anything as good as the Algemeiner to get at the truth.Thank You

These monsters have respect for nothing and especially life,

  • Ivan Gur-Arie

Somehow in the US one gets bent out of shape if someone says something that is so called Islamophobic. Islam is a peaceful religion and it is only the extremists who terrorize. I say the apple does not fall far from the tree. That is terror the apple does not fall far from Islam the tree. I am proud to say I am Islamophobic, I make no exceptions, and accept no excuses. Let us call a spade a spade. If it smells like a camel and walks like a camel and looks like a camel, then by God it is a camel.

  • Jill Maleson

David Greenfield,THANK YOU! You speak the truth.

  • Dr.Joji Cherian

“”Greenfield, the grandchild of Holocaust survivors”” Holocaust survivor, children of holocaust survivor. Now this fellow Greenfield is grand child of holocaust survivors. What appellation will you give to his children? great grand children of holocaust survivors?

“Voice rising, Greenfield contrasted Israel’s open society with the repressive regimes across the Middle East, before asserting, “What you saw here today was naked, blind antisemitism” Yes .But what you call Israel is committing in Palestine? I don’t know, but can you call it semitism? Murdering hundreds and thousands in the name a few ineffective projectiles which you call deadly rockets.Yes let us call it semitism and it is open society of Israel the only democracy of Middle East.

    • mark

      “Murdering hundreds of thousands”???

All death in all Israeli-Arab conflicts (including wars) had approximately 100 thousand death. That includes Jews killed by terrorists.

Lies like yours, demonization of Israel are very similar to Goebbels lies against the Jews at the time.

    • Meir

Hundreds of thousands? Israel has never murdered ‘hundreds of thousands’. You must be confusing it with Syria, or Iraq, or Iran.

You make out as if the Palestinians have no aims but peace and love.

You are feeding from the trough of ignorance that powers the ignorance of that region.

Look around the middle east. Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, Iraq, Iran, Kurdistan. What do you see there?

And you have the gall to even come here and straight up lie about Israel?

    • ron herstik

Your ignorance betrays you!. Pray tell, how many hundreds and thousands of Palestinians has Israel killed “in the name a few ineffective projectiles which you call deadly rockets[?]” The rockets–about 4000 of them, hardly a “few”– were ineffective because they were intercepted and destroyed before they could kill hundreds of Israelis. The Palestinians were shooting these “few” rockets very deliberately into heavily populated areas, while Israel took great care to warn Palestinian civilians of impending fire. (The argument, by the way, that Gaza is so densely congested that there is no area for the Palestinian civilians to escape to and that Hamas has no choice but to fire from civilian areas, is a complete lie! There non-civilian open areas in Gaza that Hamas, if it chose, could have fired its rockets from.) I recognize that what I say will not have much impact on your opinion, as ignorant and prejudicial your opinion is, but it gives me a great of satisfaction to refute somebody like you who puts a title of Dr. in front of his name. A degree obviously does not eliminate prejudice, and dare I say it, Antisemitism.

    • Salomon dayan

You are really stupid to say the least .nothing else needs to be said

    • BuckDePublick

      Go F yourself, Herr Doktor!

    • Louis Menaged

Hundreds of thousands? You must talk about Muslims, murdering Muslims. More Arabs have died at the hands off Arafat, Hamas, Assad and Nasrallah than in all the wars with Israel. Ignorant or hate-filled and willfully speaking lies. Which are you?

    • Dovid

      Dr. Joji Cherian,

A delegation from the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs (JCPA) is set to visit India in an effort to strengthen the strategic relationship between Israel and India.

An Israeli delegation is set to visit India to sign a collaborative agreement with Vivekananda International Foundation (VIF), a leading New Delhi-based think tank. As part of their visit, the parties intend to discuss the security situation in West Asia, including in Pakistan and in Iran. In addition, they will aim to analyze new trends in international terrorism and assess the current situation in the Middle East and South Asia.

This cooperation should disturb you greatly given your hatred of Jews and so why don’t you move to Pakistan, Iran, Syria, Lebanon, Somalia, Sudan, Bangladesh, Libya or any of the dozens of Islamic, non-democratic countries that you? Perhaps you can open you dental clinic and fill cavities there (but no women patients since it is haram to touch them).

      • Dr,Joji Cherian

Just now I saw your letter.I hope by this time you have your Adelsons,Sabans,Schumers etc or the potential ones in India. You are so intelligent and resourceful in finding them. And tell you India is much more vulnerable to predators for historical and geographical reasons.Best of liuck

    • Saul Eisenstat

“Ineffective projectiles”. What a wonderful term, but what a lie. The fact that they didn’t kill many people was by luck, not because they were meant to be ineffective.

    • Barry Koplen

      To Dr. Cherian:

Have you ever wondered why there are no Jews in what you would call Palestinian Gaza?
Your condemnation of Israel and your support for Palestinian misbehavior (just Gazan?) suggests an amorality that is unforgivable…unless you’ve been trained to think as they do and act as they do. If so, please own up to your cultural deficit that, tragically, predates even that of Mufti Haj Amin Husseini.

    • CGG

Damn straight, Joji. The appellation fits and it isn’t ever going away. Especially in light of ignoramuses like you who think that survivors’ descendants are not affected by the fact that half the Jewish population of the earth was wiped out. We will wave that in your face as long as anti-Semites like you exist.

Wake up and place the blame for any Palestinian woes squarely where it belongs. Blame their fellow Arabs who co-opt their cause to further their own anti-Semitic agenda. Blame their fellow Arabs for failing to do anything of substance to help their Arab brothers. Admit it: You don’t give a damn about the Palestinians. Israel does more to help them than any of their Arab brethren. The conflict comes down to one basic element, and that’s ANTI-SEMITISM.

    • Listen up polytheist, idol worshiper dentist. I the Muslims have their way you will be killed because you are not people of the book.

    • Eli S

“Dr.”, you call the rockets ineffective projectives, yet they have killed many Israeli’s. Thus, it appears that they are not so ineffective.

Is Israel not allowed to defend itself from terror? Yes, launching rockets from Gaza to Israel is terror. Israeli’s along the border have to live in shelters out of fear. It is terror that Hamas uses human shields, it is terror that Hamas funnels money to build tunnels to kill civilians instead of using that money to provide infrastructure.

Throughout the history of the “palestinians” they have always turned a blind eye to Israel’s offers for peace.

And yes, whatever the term you want to use, it can be grandchild of holocaust survivors or great grandchild of holocaust survivors. What was the point you were trying to make? You do realize that “palestinians” are still considered refugee’s by the UN do you not? They are the only people to be given that title generation after generation. If thats the case, why cant future generations from offspring of holocaust survivors use the term “…holocaust survivors”

    • Harvey

May those poor ineffective rockets one day rain down on you and your family . Go post on IS / Hamas . They are one and the same and share your views on Jews

    • steven L

      Shameless ignorance is BLISS.

    • danny kid

Murxering hundreds of thousand?. According to Palestinian Centre For human Rights (Gaza) approximately 22,000 Palestinian Arabs killed in the West Bank and Gaza since 1948. Thats 22,000 killed in fighting in 67 years. Your “tens of thousands” lie shows how much you know and bother to know and how much your raw hate is what moves you.

    • danny kid

Your “hundreds of thkusands” that is. Just a hate fuled figure plucked from the air. Its called “Anti Semitism”.

    • Dr Murray Orbuch

“But what you call Israel is committing in Palestine? I don’t know, but can you call it semitism? Murdering hundreds and thousands in the name a few ineffective projectiles which you call deadly rockets.Yes let us call it semitism and it is open society of Israel the only democracy of Middle East.”

What do I call this? inane moral relativism; NO NATION is required to stand idly by when THOUSANDS OF ROCKETS are hurled at population centers. Only Israel seems to be required by the blithely uncurious to commit suicide for the sake of the world’s pet victims. Wake up and don’t be a ‘useful idiot’.

    • Joel Keller

Certainly, I wouldn’t call it genocide, which would be an audacious lie. I wouldn’t call it murder. I’d call it self-defense. And you’re a prejudiced fool to think it’s anything else.

    • Golum

Heeey Dr. JoeGiCherryAnne???…who ever you are???

From your response …Dave Greenfield is really speaking about YOU!!!
YOU CAN’T SEEM TO separate Israel & Israeli’s from the Holocaust or the other 7 million Jews living around the world and you see nothing wrong with interrupting an Auschwitz Commemoration to yell & jeer Hatred…or for that matter to walk into a French Kosher Market and murder a bunch of shoppers ….isn’t that right?
NOW as to what…”Israel is committing in Palestine”…THERE IS NO PALESTINE…there hasn’t been since 1948…when are you gonna accept that?..AND…”Murdering hundreds and thousands in the name a few ineffective projectiles which you call deadly rockets”…What kind of stupid are you? Is that what you really believe?…You’re reading Al Jazeera tooooo much….the araaabs are poor innocent people that everyones picking on and murdering? Nothing will ever change with you people until you accept the truth instead of making up your own truth’s!

By the way why are you reading a Jewish Pub?

    • Gene Schwimmer

What you call Israel doing in Judea and Samaria (there is not, and has never been, a country called “Palestine”) is preventing terrorist attacks on Israel and preventing Hamas terrorists from turning Judea and Samaria into another Gaza that would allow Hamas to take over and oppress the Arabs in Judea and Samaria the way they currently oppress the Arabs of Gaza.

Your mischaracterization of Israel’s actions in Judea and Samaria brand you as an anti-Semite, no different from those that interrupted the Council meeting. No doubt, you’re sorry you were not informed of the demonstration so that you could have participated.

    • ricardo

“What do you call Israel is committing in Palestine?” I’d call it self-defense. Since the Arabs have been killing Jews (and others) in that region since long before there was even an Israel, I’d say that this is clearly the continuation of a long-term, ongoing self-defense against the region’s violently antisemitic, anti-Christian, anti-gay, anti BaHai, anti-Hindu, anti-women, anti modern, anti-Enlightenment, murderous 12’th Century Cultists. These anachronistic murderers remind me of those who practiced Thugee. Took the British a hundred years, but they finally got rid of them.

A “few ineffective projectiles”?? You need to learn to count. Tens of thousands is not hardly “a few”. Furthermore, when your life hangs in the balance, it is not comforting to think that perhaps they aren’t accurate. Who knows where those inaccurate explosive devices will land? Still further, a big factor helping to reduce casualties is a massive civil defense system giving everyone 15 seconds to take cover. As someone who endured the Duck & Cover hysteria of the Cold War, I can assure you that even practicing dodging missiles is terrifying. Enduring the reality of incoming explosives day after month after year is hardly innocuous.
Murdering??? That is what the Arabs do. The Israelis are guilty only of very careful self-defense, while the Arabs kill anyone they can, even including huge numbers of their own coreligionists. Get past the propaganda and recognize the truth of these issues.

    • Marco Redwolf

What’s wrong with that? The Nazis traced Jewish Blood back ten generations. And the Arabs? Are you saying that they don’t follow their own claim to the land back …How Far ? Hmmmnnnn Maybe Centuries ? But spoken like a true Anti-Semite / Arabist. In your view only Jews should disassociate themselves from their ancestral history after two generations. Maybe Greenfield should change his name to… I don’t know… Bluestone ?

    • Dr. Joji Cherian,

Please get your facts before speaking and be sure to tell the truth. Just what IS Israel doing in “Palestine”? Do you know or are you deliberately prevaricating?

The facts are laid out and available to any honest seeker of the truth. Do yourself a huge favor and acquaint yourself intimately with them.

    • len

dear dr joji may those ineffective projectiles rain on you, your loved ones, your living quarters and anyone and anything else you care about.and when you sift through the ashes if you survive maybe then you’ll sing a different tune.what are you a doctor of, insanity?

    • Dante

The terminology used in this comment is unmasking and outrageous, and so is its issue.
First of all, the term ‘murder’ for Protective Edge is utterly inappropriate, it was war, namely a war which did not begin with PE but with rockets and tunnels made for attacks on Israeli civilians which means for killing Jews because they are Jews which was also the issue of the Nazi concentration camps.
Israel did not deliberatedly killi civilians but bombed military targets like rocket bases. It’s not her fault that the Palestinians deliberatedly made civilians stay there to ‘protect’ their rocket bases or, at the other hand, produce civilian casualties for their propaganda war against Israel.
Particularly, this term (“murder”) is never used against other warring nations even if they are muss less considerate of civil lives, so thr use of the term “murder” is a double standard against Israel which, as a state, has the sacred duty of protecting the own citizens and inhabitsnts from violence. Tolerating the rockets, mortars (one of them really killed a 4yo boy, having been fired from a building which had been spared by the IDF) and terror tunnels was therefore not an option.
Murder, at the other hand, is what happened to the three Yeshiva students, a young Palestinian (who’s murderers were arrested in Israel instead of being celebrated as “heroes” and “martyrs” like Palestinian assassins use to be) and all the victims of terror attacks, many of them murdered just for being Jewish.
Secondly, the demonstrators disturbed a commemoration for murdered Jews who never even had the chance to become Israelis, so this attack has nothing to do with “what Israel commits to the Palestinians”. It’s an attack on Jews because they are Jews, nothing else. Pure antisemitism not to be justified by anything, not to be put into a relation to what Israel alledgedly “commits”.
Without comparing this to what Nazi crimes, even these are never used to “forbid” Germans to pity their own dead of WWII or the women and girls raped by allied soldiers at the end of the war and aftermath.

    • Dante

BTW ineffectiveness is no reason for tolerating the rocket and mortar attacks. It’s their purpose what counts, and this is killing Jews because they are Jews which is already done which makes me think that the holocaust is not even over yet, it has just slowed down with the defeat of Nazi Germany as the most effective of its perpetrators.

    • Bill Young

Dr. Cherian — Why don’t you just pack up and ship yourself over to the Ramallah or Gaza City. We don’t need misinformed, blind-sighted bigots here in the US.

    • Sonia Willats

It’s called self-defence. You are brainwashed by the liberal press.

What do YOU call the terror tunnels? It was the terror tunnels that gave the final impetus to the Operation (not even the senseless kidnapping and murder of 3 innocent young students, not even the missiles THAT DO KILL AND MAIM, though Israel protects her citizens as best she can with 1) shelters and 2) rocket defence batteries.

Why are they are terror to Israel and a delight to Hamas? Because Hamas planned / plans to bring huge sudden death and destruction to Israel through them. Do you doubt this? Do you understand it at all? They had sleeping pills, motor bikes etc. so they could kidnap people (probably children) and hold the state to ransom.

    • Dr. Cherian, what is your preferred appellation for a grandchild of a Holocaust survivor? It seems to be an issue for you. Maybe something similar to a “great great grandchild of an Arab refugee from Palestine who is still a refugee”?
Defending your people from an enemy that is dedicated to your destruction and has initiated a war against you is not commonly called “murder”. That is, outside of the muslim world.
A good rule of thumb: if you don’t want to cry about being a victim, don’t start a war with someone who will kick your ass. As far as the rockets go, the 4000 rockets fired by Hamas in last year’s war were largely ineffectual because they were shot down by the Iron Dome. Had they not been shot down, hundreds of Israeli civilians could have died. While that might have pleased you, it didn’t happen because, unlike Hamas, Israel defends her women and children instead of hiding behind them.

    • Robert Davis

cherian : your antisemitism makes you BLAME the rockets “inefficiency” to help you blame Israel for defending itself. You can tear off your mask which takes in no one because it is evident that what made the rockets “inefficient” is Israel’s defence’s EFFICIENCY not arabs’ good will. As to fake “palestinians” the only thing ISRAEL CAN RIGHTLY BE BLAMED FOR IS NOT EXPELLING THEM WHICH WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM INSTANTLY AND DISSIPATE IT INTO THE AIR AS ALL NATIONS DO WITH THEIR HOSTILE MINORITIES CONSIDERING THOSE ARAB REFUGEES ARE THE MOST HOSTILE IN THE WORLD! I cannot understand how Israel’s population does not DEMAND from its “leaders” who unfortunately lead nothing TO RID THE COUNTRY OF THIS TERRORIST POPULATION ONCE AND FOR ALL.france will have to find another way to destroy Israel!

    • David Levy

Not a few ineffective rockets, no. Thousands of rockets, and very dangerous, but countered by a wonderful defense system. Nevertheless Israelis had to spend a lot of time in bomb shelters. Then there were the tunnels, those built from Gaza into Israel purely for the purpose of terror and murder. The simple fact is that the Palestinians have been offered peace repeatedly, and could have peace tomorrow, should they desire it. But they have rejected all offers and continue to spew hatred, demonisation and threats to annihilate Israel. The latest round of threats just means there will be another round of hostilities, with rocket attacks and attempts to invade Israel, and as a result more Palestinians will die. So you comments are idiotic rubbish, part of a campaign that will only result in more needless death and suffering. If you really care for the Palestinians, campaign for them to restart genuine peace negotiations and stop their incitement to war.

    • Joel Keller

Oh, yes. And those “few ineffective projectiles” of which you speak were actually over 10,000 in number. You are obviously blinded by your own prejudice against Israel and Jews.

    • Eve

Your ignorance is exceeded only by your blatant fact twisting. You are a total idiot. Yes, he is the grandchild of Holocaust survivors and his descendents will ALWAYS be descendents of Holocaust survivirs, you moron. Ineffective projectiles?? These “ineffective” projectiles are terrorizing innocent civilians, as those who launch these projectiles enter Israel and murder these civilians. Hundreds of thousands? Further proof that you are an idiot.

    • Avram

What are you a doctor of? You seem a little challenged in the intellectual realm, Joji ( if that’s your real name).

    • Ann-Katrin Roth

You must have a problem, Dr. Cherian. Your words make no sense. Are you not aware of the tens of thousands of israeli and Jewish victims produced by murderous palestinian terrorist groups from many different bloody strategies, all deliberately seeking out innocent civilians?

Only ignorance and hatred can allow you to – in such a sarcastic tone and with false words – describe the ever increasing range of the rocket attacks as ineffective projectiles, not when they now threaten Jerusalem and Tel Aviv and only were stopped by the iron dome defense. Only ignorance can describe the attacks directed at the murderous Hamas as murder. Hamas bears the blame for the dear innocents i Gaza.

You seem to hold Jews collectively responsible? There are many names for that condition.

    • howiej

The none deadly rockets are not meant to be none deadly. It is only via luck or the grace of God that they have been largely ineffective. I hope the Dr. before your name has nothing to do with medicine.

    • Mark Goldstein

Who started the war? Who has been offered peace and land to settle their people? Who hates Israel so much that their desire to destroy Israel is greater than taking care of their own people?

By supporting the extremists you are hurting the Palestine people who actually want a life for themselves. You don’t know the harm that you are causing. While you live your life in comfort, millions of Palestinians are hurt by your comments. Give yourself a big hand!

    • Rabbi M. Friedman

Shame that Greenfield did not physically get into the faces of the anti Semitic beasts and spit on them!

    • NAOMI

      Dear Dr Joji,

The Palestinian refugees, scattered around the globe and which supposedly number 5 million, include great-grandchildren as well.

The Arabs who live in the land of Israel, in which the Jews lived for a thousand years before they were expelled by super-mighty Rome and Greece and which were the only nation state in the region ever, were under the rule of Mamalukes, the Ottomans and the British before the re-birth of the state of Israel.

The name ‘Palestine’ was substitued for Israel by the Romans, who wanted to obliterate every vestige of Jewish existence in the land.

There has NEVER been a state of Palestine and the Palestinian Arabs never demanded a state of their own until clever Russians suggested this idea.

Nobody objects to them living in the land of Israel in peace. There are 22 Arab/Muslim countries in the Middle East alone and 56 world-wide, with huge amount of land, which share language, culture and custom of the Palestinians. Israel is a speck of a country which is impossible to divide further. Jordan is 80% Palestinian, if I am not mistaken – why can’t they create a state there (Jordan’s territory is about 4-5 times larger than Israel’s.

Israel does not occupy the West Bank (Judea and Samaria) because of imperialist aspirations. It warned Jordan not to attack it, but Jordan did and lost its territory. Israel woke up from the amnesia of hundreds of years when it encountered the abbundance of our holy places. Al Aqca mosque was built on the ruins of a Jewish Temple – the holiest place to Judaism – without any respect for the Jewish religion.

There is more I would like to say, but being a doctor you no doubt can carry out your own research competently and fairly. As a learned person it is your duty to do so. The world needs morality to be coherently articulated.

Just one more thing: the rockets fired by Hamas from Gaza are not innocent; even stones mame and kill. If a rocket can reach Tel Aviv and beyond – it is a highly sophisticated and deadly weapon. Egypt didn’t want Gaza when Israel returned the Sinai back to the Egyptians as part of the peace process. Egypt wanted Israel to keep it – let it be Israel’s problem. Hamas is not a democratically elected government – it was elected having made huge social promises to the people, who were fed up with the corrupted Fatah.

Wishing you a fascinating journey of discovery of the facts. I trust you are humble enough to be surprised by what you find.

    • Milhouse

You lie. In Israel’s entire history it has never murdered even one person, let alone “hundreds and thousands”. The Arabs of Israel (who now call themselves “Palestinians”) were Hitler’s allies, and their cause since then has simply been to finish his work. The “Palestinian” cause is inherently antisemitic. Israel is doing nothing but defend itself, and it will continue to do so until all of its Nazi enemies are dead. That includes you.

    • Fact Finder

Um let me quote you there Dr(?) “Murdering hundreds and thousands (of palestinians) in the name of a few ineffective projectiles” Um clearly you have been sold on propaganda, please check your facts. I dont even know if you can say tens of thousands.. i think hundreds would be more accurate. But if you are referring to the hundreds of thousands of Palestinians who have been killed in Syria and Lebenon you would be more accurate.. but for some reason the world has turned a blind eye to those palestinians. And my guess is you have never visited Israel, but please do take a trip to yes, THE ONLY FREE SOCIETY AND DEMOCRACY IN THE MIDDLE EAST, and while you are there, feel free to stand in the way of one of those “ineffective projectiles.”

    • Florence

“.. a few ineffective projectiles which you call deadly rockets.” That’s like using the expression “a little pregnant”. I would like to see Cherian live in a house where these “ineffective rockets” are headed day in and day out. If it weren’t for the dome anti-rocket weaponry (sic?)making the rockets “ineffective” — stopping “most” of them, there would have been more Israeli civilians killed or maimed. The nerve of you to make such a frivolous statement. Put the other shoe on and see how you like it. The Hamss could have avoided all of the injuries and deaths of their Gazans citizens if they would put their mind and monies in feeding and protecting their people instead of making rockets and digging tunnels where they can sneak into Israel and kill innocent people. The “Dr.” that precedes your name must have been received by writing a thesis on how to kill people.

    • Some Guy

“Now this fellow Greenfield is grand child of holocaust survivors. What appellation will you give to his children? great grand children of holocaust survivors?”

Yes… if Greenfield is the grandchild of Holocaust survivors, then his children would be the great grandchildren of Holocaust survivors. Congratulations on figuring out the concept of time, and how family trees work! Obviously that doctoral-level education represents time and money well spent.

In any event, referring to subsequent generations of Holocaust survivors as being the children, grandchildren, great grandchildren of survivors/victims is no less ridiculous than the UN’s classification of the descendants of any Arab who left the Land of Israel in ’48 as a “refugee.” I once worked with a young woman, in an office job, in the United States. She was a Canadian citizen, with one Canadian parent, one Palestinian. According to the United Nations Rocket Warehousing Agency, she was a “Palestinian Refugee.” Not the grandchild of a refugee, just a refugee.

I’m not saying the two things are related, because they’re not. I’m just saying that if you’re going to harp on labels where Jews are somehow involved, you picked a pretty stupid place to start.

On behalf of all Jews: I’m sorry the Algemeiner’s reference to someone being descended from Holocaust survivors offended your sensibilities and hurt you in some way. But you know what hurt even more? How about the GRUESOME MURDERS OF TWELVE MILLION INNOCENT PEOPLE, half of whom were Jews? So yeah, excuse the hell out of us for not forgetting about it for your convenience. Clearly it’s a frivolous issue with ZERO RELEVANCE today.

…I mean, unless you happen to live in Paris, or Malmo, or Lago Puelo, or Kansas City, or Brussels, or Mumbai, or…

Seriously, pick up a friggin’ newspaper once in a while! Hint: Der Stürmer doesn’t count.

    • Salim Chishti

I agree with Dr. Cherian totally, I was about to write such a reply myself but he said it far more eloquently than I could have.

      • Dante

I totally disagree. For example, the use of the term “murder” for something which no one would consider as murder if another state (e.g. Russia) did it is clearly antisemitic because it is a double standard to the disadvantage of the Jewish state.

    • Salim Chishti

My only other comment would be to say that if you are a hammer, every problem looks like a nail.

    • Alexi

When’s the last time you rushed to a bomb shelter with little children screaming in fright and forever suffering PTSD from the age of 2?

Jews are no longer obligated to sit idly while people attempt to kill them.

And you have a Phd? Or you’re an MD? Yet you’re unfamiliar with the definition of murder??

      Shooting BACK is NOT murder.

Yet indiscriminately shooting 10s of thousands of rockets AT civilians is easily tens of thousands of attempts as MASS MURDER.

      You NEED a good Dr.

    • howiej

Will someone please translate this into coherent English?

  • Gila

He speaks the truth. Anyone who genuinely cares about human rights, justice and freedom should not only listen to the councilman’s speech but agree with him.

    • Marco Redwolf

      Try Prozac.

  • Lauren Goldman

Jewish Voice for Peace really needs to name itself more honestly; Jewish Dupes for ‘palestine’ would be truthful.

  • Mickey Oberman

Why were those viciou, anti Semitic swine not arrested for disturbing the peace?

    • Gene Schwimmer

Because NYC is governed by liberals, that’s why.

    • Marco Redwolf

That is a very good question.. I suppose it is that pesky political correctness bug .. again. It sure isn’t a 1st amendment issue. The irony here is that with the exception of Councilman Greenfield it is the NY City Liberal Elite getting a dose of their own medicine. What’s the old saying ? A Conservative is a Liberal that was mugged. Its the left that incubates Anti- Semitism.

Why were they allowed to go on for that long? I wanted someone to punch her.
