Residents of the Los Angeles Jewish Home give dating advice to a young Jewish man in a comedic video posted Monday on YouTube just in time for Valentine’s Day.
Jonathan, an associate at the Jewish home, quizzes the senior citizens on an array of topics including having sex on the first date, kissing a girl, who should pay for dinner and whether online dating is a good idea. When the 28-year-old asks a male resident named Lee about his experiences with online dating, he replies, “It’s like kissing a paper in a magazine. I mean, what good is that?”
“I don’t know if you can meet people like that. I’ve never heard of people coming out of a machine,” Lee adds.
Jonathan asks some of the female residents what to look for in a woman. Charlotte says there should be a shared background and that there’s more to a woman than her looks, and Esther adds that “she has to be in shape.” A male resident named Irving tells Jonathan, “I happen to like women who think.”
Lee adds, “If you have a girl that you feel kind of mushy about and she feels a little mushy to you, the two mushies can get together and have a hell of a mush.”
Jonathan also addresses the “first kiss” question, asking the residents when a first kiss is appropriate. One male resident says, “After you tell her how beautiful her eyes are. Then you say ‘what kissable lips you have.'”
One resident notes,”in my day it was flowers and candy and flirting.”
“Sympathetic and wise; practical and nurturing; funny and sweet — seniors at the Los Angeles Jewish Home make the perfect matchmakers,” said a press release accompanying the release of the video by the home. “They know from experience what it takes to light a spark and turn it into a flame.”
